The wild goose is a species of bird in the genus Nymphalidae. Also known as proto-geese, wild geese, and birds of the family Platyptidae. Body length 800-930 mm. Hongyan is the ancestor of the Chinese family goose. In winter, it inhabits large lakes, reservoirs, seashores, estuaries and bays, as well as nearby meadows and farmland. Strong vigilance, when resting, there are often a few 'whistling birds' standing in a higher place to lead the neck and watch, if someone approaches, they will shout and fly. It mainly feeds on the leaves, buds of various herbaceous plants, including terrestrial and aquatic plants, reeds, algae and other plant foods, and also eats a small amount of animal foods such as crustaceans and molluscs. In winter, they often go to remote farmland, wheat fields and bean fields to forage for crops. Foraging is mostly in the evening and at night. They usually fly in groups to foraging grounds after dark, returning early in the morning to rest and swim in lakes or rivers, sometimes on shore meadows or on sandy beaches.
