Madagascar has recorded a total of 47 species of lemurs (some say 54 species), distributed throughout the island of Madagascar, and because of the different environment and climate, the habits and characteristics of different lemurs vary greatly.
Lemurs are generally small, have a dog-like mouth, a monkey-like fur, mostly brownish-gray fur, gentle temperament, cautious movements, and a large tail much longer than ordinary monkeys.
