The leaves of the agave are arranged in a rosette pattern, the flower stems are tall, and the inflorescences are apical and extremely beautiful. With a record of 3.9 meters at the time of flowering, the longest inflorescence is spectacular and has great ornamental value, and is a common flower in urban gardens and green belts in southern China. Agave has been used as a food resource in Central America for at least 9,000 years, and leaf fibers can be used to make boat cables, ropes, and whole plants can be used as biofuel.
