On November 17, the 19th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES CoP19) reached its fourth day. The Third Day of the First Committee meeting adopted Proposition 38 to include the entire family Sphyrnidae (Hammerhead sharks) in Appendix II.

As an observer of the CITES Convention, members of the delegation of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (hereinafter referred to as China Green Development Council, Green Society) attended the meeting in Panama and brought real-time information on the third day.

The vote on Proposition 37 to list all species of Carcharhinidae spp. (Requiem sharks) in CITES Appendix II was adopted by consensus on Proposition 38 to include hammerhead sharks in Appendix II after a two-thirds majority in the First Committee of CITES CoP19.

Proposition No. 38: The entire family of hammerhead sharks is included in Appendix II

At the request of Costa Rica, the hammerhead shark was listed in Appendix III on 26 September 2012. The hammerhead shark, hammerhead shark and hammerhead hammerhead shark were listed in Appendix II on 14 September 2014 after an 18-month delay in their entry into force. This is the first time that other species of the hammerhead shark family have been included in the appendix.

The proposal seeks to list the narrow-headed hammerhead shark (Sphyrna tiburo) in Appendix II under Article II, paragraph 2 (b), and Appendix II under Article II, paragraph 2 (b), and all other hammerhead shark species that are not yet included in the Appendix II.

The recommendation, adopted to regulate international trade in all hammerhead shark species, in accordance with Article 4 of the Convention.
