One day in April 1948, a court in Peiping received a letter of complaint from a woman named Liu Fengzhen.

In her complaint, she said that her sister, a female inmate in Peiping No. 1 Prison, had a serious stomach problem and had no hope of curing. In order to get 10 gold bars, her mother sent her sister to be a substitute for a death row prisoner.

However, after her sister was shot, her mother only received 4 gold bars.

She and her mother once went to the prison to collect the remaining six gold bars, but several adults in the prison turned their faces and threw them out.

As a last resort, she told the secret and asked the government for an explanation.

At the end of that complaint, the court staff saw a news that shocked them greatly: the death row prisoner who Liu Fengling died was not someone else, but the famous Yoshiko Kawashima!

From royal gege to Japanese spies: Yoshiko Kawashima's legendary life and mystery of life and death

Yoshiko Kawashima, formerly known as Aisin Gioro Hsienhyun, Han name Jin Bihui, was the 14th daughter of Aisin Gioro Shanqi, the Prince of Heshuosu in the Qing Dynasty, and was a veritable royal gege.

After the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912, in order to revive the Qing Dynasty with the help of the power of the Japanese, Zenji gave his daughter Xianyu to the Japanese Kawashima Naniwa as his adopted daughter.

Hsien changed her name to Yoshiko Kawashima and was sent to Japan to receive a militaristic education, returning to China as an adult to engage in espionage activities.

Yoshiko Kawashima successively held such important posts as the "commander-in-chief of the Anguo Army" and the "commander-in-chief of the North China People's Self-Defense Army" in the puppet state of Manchukuo; she participated in secret military operations such as the Huanggutun Incident, the 918 Incident, and the Manchurian Independence Movement, and personally directed the Shanghai January 28 Incident, which shocked China and foreign countries.

Japan surrendered in 1945, and in 1948, Yoshiko Kawashima was sentenced to death for "traitor" and executed by shooting in Peiping No. 1 Prison at the age of 41.

However, Liu Fengzhen's letter told people: Yoshiko Kawashima is not dead!

As soon as this news came out, it immediately set off an uproar in Beiping City.

However, before people could recover from their disbelief, another startling news arrived: a journalist told the newspaper that he had met Yoshiko Kawashima after her execution. He even described in detail what happened when they met.

His news pushed the already foggy Kawashima Yoshiko's death penalty storm to a white-hot point. Police, gendarmes and other relevant personnel rushed to the newspaper office to verify the situation.

However, after the reporter finished the report, he suddenly disappeared.

After some time, under the pressure of public opinion, he came forward and said that he was dissatisfied with the authorities, so he made a joke with the people.

And Liu Fengzhen and her mother suddenly lost their track after dropping the bombshell.

Some people think she hid because she was afraid, some people think she was bought, and others think she may have been silenced.

Along with this, the public questioned the case of Yoshiko Kawashima more and more:

First, when the execution was carried out, the Peiping media, invited by the Kuomintang, arrived at the prison in advance, but were warned by the prison not to enter.

Second, when the Peiping media, who had been waiting for a long time, saw Yoshiko Kawashima, she was already a corpse covered in sludge and blood, and she could not see her original face at all.

Third, Yoshiko Kawashima has always shown herself as a man's short hair, even a few days before the execution, while the corpse has long hair.

Fourth, although the trial of Yoshiko Kawashima was completely open and transparent, the execution process was concealed.

This series of doubts made the death of Yoshiko Kawashima confusing.

But at this time, the liberation war in full swing attracted the attention of the people. All kinds of comments and doubts about Yoshiko Kawashima's death have also been blown away in the rapid tide of social change.

However, after 60 years, when the question of "whether the woman who was executed on the execution ground was Yoshiko Kawashima" seemed to become a mystery that could never be solved, the appearance of a woman shocked the public and made the matter turn around.

In 2006, a female painter in Changchun, Jilin, revealed a surprising secret to the media: Yoshiko Kawashima did not die that year, and there was someone else who was executed in her place.

The female painter's name is Zhang Yu, and her mother is a Japanese orphan who was adopted by her grandfather Duan Lianxiang when she was 1 year old.

Grandpa has a wife, but he also has a woman outside who has a deep relationship with him, who claims to be his distant cousin. This person's surname is Fang, and Zhang Yu calls her Fang Grandma.

Zhang Yu's mother lived with Fang Grandma from the age of 5 to 9, and Zhang Yu often went to Fang Grandma's house to play when she was a child.

At that time, many people thought that Fang Grandma was a woman outside Duan Lianxiang.

Zhang Yu said that Fang Grandma is not tall, has very white skin, loves makeup, is versatile, speaks Japanese, can sing Japanese songs, and often dances Japanese dances. In addition, she has a very peculiar habit: no photos, no handwriting.

Zhang Yu's grandfather kept many of Fang's relics, including a telescope with two capital letters "HK" engraved on the wall of a telescope.

One night in late 2004, Duan Lianxiang, an 86-year-old grandfather, called Zhang Yu to her bed and asked her to turn off the lights and TV. Then turn on the desk lamp and say that he has something to explain to Zhang Yu.

Grandpa first asked Zhang Yu to take down a painting on the wall and wrap it. He instructed Zhang Yu to send the painting back to Changchun and give it to her mother for safekeeping. He said that this painting was specially painted for him by Fang Grandma, and he should keep it as a souvenir.

Then, Grandpa handed her another relic of Fang Grandma, a filigree cloisonné lion ornament, and asked her to pass it over to "Xiao Fang Hachiro". Grandpa said that this is Grandma Fang's will.

Finally, grandpa told Zhang Yu: Fang Grandma is Yoshiko Kawashima.

Duan Lianxiang said that during the puppet Manchukuo, he was an interpreter for the chief of the Manchurian Railway Siping Railway Police Station, and often accompanied the chief to the Dongxinglou Restaurant in Tianjin. And the owner of Dongxinglou Restaurant is Yoshiko Kawashima.

In 1948, someone replaced Yoshiko Kawashima with a stand-in on the execution ground.

After Yoshiko Kawashima left prison, several people, including her grandfather, selected several places in the northeast, and finally, they chose the location where Yoshiko Kawashima hid in Xinlicheng, on the outskirts of Changchun.

After explaining this to Zhang Yu, his grandfather died within a few days.

Yoshiko Kawashima lived in Shinritsujo until her death in 1978.

AFTER ZHANG YU'S NEWS CAME OUT, A JAPANESE SCHOLAR DISCOVERED THAT THE TWO ENGLISH LETTERS "HK" ON THE WALL OF THE TELESCOPE TUBE LEFT BY FANG GRANDMA WERE THE ENGLISH ABBREVIATIONS OF JIN BIHUI'S JAPANESE PRONUNCIATION "KIN HEKIKI".

Yoshiko Kawashima recorded in her autobiography that when she was young, she once gave a friend a small handkerchief, and on this handkerchief, there were the two characters "HK" written by herself.

Zhang Yu said that after her grandfather's death, she learned through investigation that "Xiaofang Hachiro" used to be Yoshiko Kawashima's secretary.

In 1945, when the Kuomintang gendarmerie arrested Yoshiko Kawashima, Kokata Hachiro was also arrested. But Kawashima was released back to Japan in 1947, before Kawashima was executed, where he died in 2001.

The first from the left is Hachiro Kokata

Although some of Fang Grandma's relics reveal that Fang Grandma and Kawashima Yoshiko may have some connections, and the personality characteristics of Fang Grandma described by Zhang Yu and others, as well as interests and hobbies, seem to show characteristics different from an ordinary rural old lady, but the examiners are still full of doubts about Fang Grandma is Kawashima Yoshiko.

Therefore, they strictly screened the information provided by Zhang Yu and his family.

With the participation of public figures, Zhang Yu opened the base of the cloisonné lion. Inside, they found a yellowed note with 16 characters written in the seal script: Fang Soul went west, and did not return. With sorrow and nine springs, ancient and modern wizards.

The examiner interprets that the meaning of these 16 words may be alluding to the death of Yoshiko Kawashima.

The payment of the note is "Xiuzhu respects His Excellency Xiaofang".

Literally, this is a man named Hidetake, written to Kokata Hachiro.

Zhang Yu said that Xiuzhu was one of the few people with whom Fang Grandma interacted with her during her lifetime, and everyone in the family called him Seventh Uncle, but did not know the specific name.

If Fang Grandma is really Yoshiko Kawashima, then these 16 characters are the writer conveying the news of Yoshiko Kawashima's death to Kofang Hachiro.

Then, the examiner listened to Zhang Yu and her mother a few Japanese songs. Among these songs, Yoshiko Kawashima sang in Japan back then, and there were also other people singing.

When the song sung by Yoshiko Kawashima was released, Zhang Yu and her mother said in unison: This is sung by Aunt Fang (Fang Grandma)!

Zhang Yu also recalled that during her life in Changchun, Fang often listened to songs with a hand-cranked record player. And her favorite old record is "Suzhou Night" sung by Li Xianglan in 1941.

Yoshiko Kawashima and Li Lanxiang

Li Xianglan, born in 1920 in Fushun City, Liaoning Province, whose real name is Shuko Yamaguchi, is originally from Japan, and is a famous Chinese singer and film actress in the 30s and 40s of the 20th century.

Li Xianglan has a very good relationship with Yoshiko Kawashima, because Yoshiko Kawashima likes to wear men's clothes, and Li Xianglan always calls her brother.

After Japan's defeat in 1945, Li Xianglan was deported back to Japan.

The record released in 1941 in Fang's collection seems to add another possibility to prove that Fang Grandma is Yoshiko Kawashima.

And the next thing adds a heavy weight to this possibility:

In 2009, a group of 9 people, including Zhang Yu, went to Japan at the invitation of a Japanese TV station and found Li Xianglan.

At that time, Li Xianglan was 88 years old, and she was very reluctant to appear in public, but after seeing some of Fang's relics and learning some descriptions of her life habits, the meeting that was originally scheduled for 15 minutes became four hours.

Especially after seeing a portrait of Fang Grandma, Li Xianglan said very excitedly:

Oops, this is my brother, it's my brother, I'm pretty sure it's my brother!

A Japanese reporter present asked Li Xianglan:

Will Fang Grandma be Yoshiko Kawashima?

Li Xianglan replied:

There is no other possibility.
From royal gege to Japanese spies: Yoshiko Kawashima's legendary life and mystery of life and death

As the personality of the Manchu royal family, Yoshiko Kawashima's fate should have been the same as that of other sisters, either after many vicissitudes and finally ushered in the years of quiet, or obscurity finally fell flat.

But she insisted on embarking on another road of no return.

Some people say that she is heinous. Because, as a Japanese spy, her hands were stained with Chinese blood.

Others say she is innocent. Because when she was given to Kawashima Naniwa by her father, she was only 6 years old and could not tell the difference between good and evil, and she had no choice.

As an adult, Yoshiko Kawashima once wrote a poem: There is no home to return, there are tears and nowhere to go, there is injustice in the law, and to whom are there grievances?

No matter whether Yoshiko Kawashima really fell to the ground after the gunshot in Peiping No. 1 Prison in 1948, she lived incognito and stealing her life on the outskirts of Changchun, Jilin, and lived to be 72 years old.

In any case, the mystery of Yoshiko Kawashima's life and death is so confusing and terrifying. All this cannot hide the fact that her name has withdrawn from the stage of history as early as 1948. All this, it is impossible to deny that her life had come to an end as early as 1948.

Let's listen to the voice of history together, taste our own life in other people's stories.
