Follow Me to the World Cup (80)

Spain has yet to produce a top scorer in the World Cup. This is clearly not because Spain is not focused on attacking. I think it's because they have too many offensive points in front of them. During Spain's title triumph in 2010, their powerful midfield greatly relieved the pressure on the strikers and, of course, took away the gains of the strikers. In the next two editions, they increasingly needed good strikers, but apart from Diego Costa, there was no suitable striker to step up.

This Spanish team also faces such problems.

The foreseeable main strikers are: Morata, Saravia and Fran Torres. Morata has picked up his form this season and has scored five goals for Atletico Madrid, scoring his only goal against Portugal in the Nations League on 28 September, pushing Portugal to top of the group. However, Morata may not receive as much support in the national team as he did in the club, where he interacted very well with Witsel, Carrasco, and Griezmann, and it must be said that his ability to "eat cake" is outstanding. But in the national team, he has not yet enjoyed the attention Enrique has given him.

Saravia is outstanding in his individual ability, but in Paris he remains a candidate excluded from the MMN system, having played nine games in all competitions this season but has yet to score. Fran Torres is Spain's star of hope, and in 2021, his performance with the national team was nothing short of impressive – he scored more than six goals a year and more than 10 goals in the national team, becoming Spain's best striker in the last 10 years. However, his current performance at Barca this year is not enough for people to see him dominate this World Cup. This season, he played 10 games for the club and scored just two goals. Of course, Barca's ups and downs this season and crotch-pulling midfield have indeed dragged down the striker. Hopefully, in the national team, Fran can play better.

So, will someone in Spain's midfield step up? I think it will be difficult too. The current main players of the team are: Busquets, Pedri, Koke, Garvey and so on. Busquets is still in form, but at the age of 34, his interception ability and defensive range have dropped significantly. As captain, I think he'll put his weight on defense; Pedri is in a similar situation to Fran, whose chances of scoring have dropped considerably since Lewandowski's arrival. And Cork and Garvey, considering the position factor, want to be more difficult to be the top goalscorer.

To sum up, I am not optimistic that the Spaniard can win the Golden Boot.
