Since Madame Tussauds announced in 2020 that the wax figure of former world number one badminton player Lee Zongwei will be stationed, the highly anticipated wax statue has finally been unveiled at Madame Tussauds Singapore.

Lee Jong-wai is Malaysia's first athlete to be stationed at Madame Tussauds, and his wax figure will be on display alongside the world's top athletes, including football superstars C Ronaldo and David Birham.

Li Zongwei was ranked first in the badminton world for 349 weeks, including 199 consecutive weeks at the top of the list. He has also won 69 Super Series titles and represented Malaysia as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Li Zongwei went through a 6-hour tailor-made process in November 2019. Madame Tussauds' team took more than 200 measurements for the iconic athlete.

With excitement and anticipation, Madame Tussauds Singapore kicked off for Southeast Asian fans before the wax figure of Lee Thung Wai was relocated to Hong Kong for permanent display.

To add meaning to the wax figure, Li Zongwei donated the official jersey he wore during his last match at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.

Li Zongwei shared: "I am very happy to finally be able to show my wax figure to fans from all over the world. Madame Tussauds' team put a lot of time and effort into it. They are meticulous in their work on creating wax figures, and I am very grateful to have this opportunity. ”

Steven Chung general manager of Madame Tussauds Singapore also revealed the excitement of the museum's entry into the wax statue of Lee Tsung Wai.

He said sports legends are extraordinary and legendary people. They have a unique ability to capture the hearts of fans and inspire young people around the world.

"We are honoured to have been selected as the first Madame Tussauds to showcase Lee Jong-wai's wax figure in Singapore. He is one of the best athletes of all time in the region. His wax figure will be displayed alongside the superstars of the Sports Hall of Fame. ”

In addition, Madame Tussauds Singapore also announced Malaysia Airlines and Firefly as the official airline partners of the launch.

Li Zongwei also revealed the story behind the production of wax figures at the opening ceremony, saying that it took a full 7 hours to tailor the day, and laughingly said that posing for so long was more tiring than playing.

Li Zongwei's wax figure adopts the posture of holding the racket high and striding to save the ball, he said that the original person in charge was required to jump up and kill the ball, but considering that the staff in charge of the measurement was very hard, he chose this action. In fact, this is also my signature action, I often do the net fluttering action.

The wax statue of Lee Chung-wai will be placed at Madame Tussauds in Singapore and then transferred to Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong next year.
