This year, Huazheng welcomed 3365 undergraduate freshmen and 1980 new graduate students at home and abroad. Here, I would like to ask all the new students a question: Why do you choose Huazheng? Moreover, lawyers, judges, prosecutors or journalists, accountants, and engineers are trained in many places.
When everyone chooses to go to university, it means choosing to make themselves socialist builders and successors with specialized knowledge, and choosing to study in Huazheng means choosing to agree with Huazheng's school motto.
After seventy years of trekking, through the stain of Haipai culture and the precipitation of vicissitudes, the spirit of the school motto has become a vivid portrayal of the spiritual characteristics of generations of Chinese politicians, which is not only a microcosm of the school's historical context, but also a powerful driving force to inspire Huazheng people to continue to move forward.
The so-called "dedication to knowledge" means to practice conscientiously with one's own down-to-earth attitude, actively explore scientific knowledge, and pursue scientific truth. A few days ago, I once again read the famous sentence of Mr. Zhu Guangqian, the founder of modern aesthetics in the mainland, "Conduct yourself with the attitude of being born and do things with the attitude of joining the world", and I think this sentence provides a new perspective for the understanding of the spirit of the school motto -- the perspective of moderation.
In my opinion, not to express subjective views without sufficient argumentation and practice is a self-restraint at the inner level of the individual, and it is to behave with the attitude of being born. In addition to being clear about private morality, it is also necessary to further uphold public morality, respect the rule of law not only must not slacken in exercising power, but also prevent the abuse of power; not only must we not bend the law in adjudication, but we must also put an end to arbitrary judgments according to law, and we must strive to realize the unity of the three aspects of legal reasoning and sentiment in judicial practice.
Due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, today's opening ceremony is the latest in recent years, the main venue is relatively small in scale, and the largest number of sub-venues. However, I don't think you have to feel sorry for this, in fact, you have more of a life experience that no Chinese political student has ever had in the past.
Students, I think you are a special batch of students, the new crown epidemic that has lasted for nearly three years has run through your last school period, and I think you all have more or less offline and online learning experiences. When this experience condenses into experience, experience sublimates into temperament, insight into courage, you acquire the virtue of moderation.
Because the effect of online learning and self-study depends heavily on the individual's learning plan and learning rhythm, which requires strong self-control, and your ability to enter Huazheng shows that everyone is strong in self-control.
The ancient Greek philosopher Plato mentioned an important concept many times in his famous book "The Law", that is, moderation. In social life, temperance not only requires us to adjust our living habits, learning habits, and behavior patterns, but also requires us to transform our thinking methods, overcome all preferences and prejudices, and achieve neutrality and selflessness towards people and ourselves, and a degree of relaxation in career pursuits.
As your principal and teacher, I hope that you will always maintain this unique temperament in your future education and personality.
The first is to exercise moderation over the lazy state.
College life is full of freedom, but freedom is not independent and borderless. In collective life, the self-control of social norms is the bottom line of freedom, and the enjoyment of individual freedom is bounded by not affecting the freedom of others.
When you want to stay up late to brush up on the drama, you have to think of your roommate who goes to bed and the class of the morning eight, so maintain healthy rest habits and abundant energy; When you want to lie in bed and stay in a dormitory and not participate in the nucleic acid testing screen, you must think about the impact of missing data on the epidemic prevention and control work of the whole school, so you should check it; When you want to collect takeaway food across the fence of the campus wall, you have to think about the risk of bringing a foreign virus to yourself and your teachers and classmates, so you have to go to the cafeteria to show off your meals.
Of course, the school is also trying to do everything possible to improve the quality, variety and taste of the canteen catering, and I believe that the third canteen, which will be renovated soon, will bring you a better dining experience together with the first and second canteens.
The second is to exercise moderation over inner desires.
Vanity psychology, comparison psychology, rice circle culture, traffic economy or the recently popular sharing economy, all of them have to some extent pulled everyone into the consumption trap, making people fall into the addiction to enjoyment or convenience, and the desire to win, lose, utilitarian, possessive, power, and performance are also "random flowers gradually charming the eyes", making people lose the general direction in the small pattern.
But temperance does not mean giving up on enterprising, not doing nothing after two hands and one stall, but going with the flow, taking advantage of the situation, and focusing more on the main responsibility and the main business. Zhang Yuxia, a 1999 alumnus and national March 8th Red Flag bearer, spoke as an alumni representative, and the WeChat public account of "Huazheng Youth" also pushed the good news that she was awarded the title of "2022 Moving Shanghai Person of the Year" a few days ago.
She just said that "helping the vulnerable to maintain fairness and justice was the original intention of choosing the profession of law at that time." "I think what touched me most about her was her adherence to her original intention, her adherence to legal aid services for more than ten years.
For a senior lawyer, taking over legal aid cases is often nameless and unprofitable, and does not help to expand the source of the case, increase income and influence, Zhang Yuxia alumni could have used the same time to represent more profitable cases, but they can adhere to the restraint of the desire for fame and fortune, adhere to the "public interest lawyer" and "spiritual significance".
Of course, desire will sometimes be presented in a seemingly reasonable and more enterprising way such as going ashore, starting a successful business, and seeking promotion, at this time, everyone should be more cautious and set a more suitable and down-to-earth goal.
The third is to exercise moderation over negative emotions.
People will always encounter a variety of difficulties and challenges, external environmental, physical or psychological, you can never escape, hide is not hidden, it is better to actively cope, calmly accept, once your emotions from negative to positive, your body will accept positive signals, mobilize all the strength to face difficulties.
Those who work hard will never be let down! Growth is always accompanied by pain. On the road to perfection, there is never perfection, so there is no need to suffer from gain and loss. In my opinion, the best way to combat negativity is to get yourself into action.
Zhu Haowen, a veteran graduate student of the School of International Finance and Law, concluded after his volunteer service: "Only by moving meals and delivering milk for the students with professors and doctoral supervisors can I truly feel the teacher's demeanor of a scholar with a waist bent for a student; Only by maintaining order with volunteers and teachers in the canteen and nucleic acid site, insisting on standing for five or six hours, and seeing the crowd with no end in sight, but also reminding them to maintain a distance of two meters, can I understand the problem of safe and efficient regulatory game in the real world; Only after serving as a deputy building director in the prevention and control building, staying up late to formulate a bath time schedule, a domestic garbage dumping plan, coordinating the distribution of materials, and solving the practical demands of the students, did I understand how valuable the concept of fairness pursued by the law is. ”
