Can Jaden Sancho and Marcus Rashford make it into England's World Cup squad?

Two capricious geniuses, who have appeared once since Euro 2020, are slowly but surely returning to the international arena.

Manchester United's Jaton Sancho and Marcus Rashford had a tough 12 months at their club, and they completely collapsed in last year's campaign, which led to the collapse of their performance level.

Sancho joined Dortmund from Dortmund for £75 million in the summer of 2021 and he entered a club that looked ready to take the next step. They may have wasted the chance to win Europa glory, but a respectable second place in the Premier League seems to be in Solskjaer's favour.

However, as the season began to crumble, so did Manchester United's performance. Like many others, Sancho has suffered the fate of getting lost on the pitch and has made a huge effort to adapt to life in the Premier League. There is some understanding of what is about to happen, but there is no real consistency as the results begin to skew towards losses.

Both Sancho and Marcus Rashford missed penalties in their penalty shootout against Italy that summer. Unfortunately, both were brought to one at the time of their deaths, only to miss their chances as well as England.

United changed their manager from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Michael Carrick to Ralph Lonnick last season, and why it makes sense for a new player like Sancho to find it difficult to adapt and play the best football. Outside the stadium, their every touch of the ball is analyzing, as suffocating as a vacuum.

For a player who should focus only on adapting to Manchester United and, more importantly, in the Premier League, it is understandable that Sancho is distracted and his performance is affected as a result. Without his consistency, it would not have been possible to be a regular on Gareth Southgate's team.

Marcus Rashford also suffered his worst season on the Red Devils jersey. Apparently, the penalty he missed had a ripple effect on him, as well as the shoulder injury he endured last season.

The Englishman, who was always so positive, so flexible, so dangerous, looked like a shadow of himself. He would choose the easy choice, which he had never done before, and it looked like he was trying to attract players. For him, the physical advantage didn't exist, something Lonnick realized immediately after taking on as interim manager.

However, due to these setbacks last season, both players grew up from experience and ended up spending a summer where they were able to properly recover their strength and get the right headspace in the 22/23 campaign.

At the helm of Ten Haag, Marcus Rashford and Sancho already look 100 times higher than they were last season. Marcus Rashford played on the left or centre and looked dangerous on the counter-attack and punished Arsenal with two of his skilful goals.

Sancho received the ball from both sides and looked more confident in the ball at his feet. Everyone saw his skilful coordination in Germany, as well as his composure, which he now often showed under Ten Haag.

Both sides still have a lot to do, but with six weeks to go before Southgate announces their World Cup squad, Rashford and Sancho know they will do everything they can to force their way into the squad and board a plane to Qatar – and that's exactly what they're going to work towards.
