US media: The Australian government plans to block China's lease of Port Darwin on the grounds that it "poses a threat to Australia's national defense and security"!

A number of US media, including the Wall Street Journal, recently said that the Australian government is reviewing a lease related to China: a Chinese private enterprise plans to lease Darwin Port for 99 years. After taking office, Australian Prime Minister Albanis launched an investigation into whether the lease would pose a threat to Australia's defence and security.

In response to the lease, some Australian defense experts and defense officials fanned the flames on the sidelines: Port Darwin is an important military supply point in a possible conflict in the Taiwan Strait, and it is Australia's closest strategic port to Asia and China, which has important Australian military bases, so Canberra should review the lease based on "defense risks".

For example, John Cohen, head of the North Australian Strategic Policy Center, an Australian think tank, said that Port Darwin is an important entrance, a fulcrum for the US military to deploy forward to project military power to the Indo-Pacific region, and can also serve as a springboard for the People's Liberation Army to take military action in the Taiwan Strait, so it has extremely important military significance.

It is not difficult to see from these statements by the Australian defense department and think tanks that their attacks on Chinese companies' leasing of Port Darwin are not really out of "national defense and security" considerations, but are worried about weakening the ability of the United States and Australia to use Port Darwin to contain, counter China and intervene in potential conflicts in the Taiwan Strait.

To put it bluntly, the Australian government's attempt to prevent the signing of this lease is not to maintain its own national defense construction, but to better intervene in China's affairs. Considering that Port Darwin is also a supply point often used by the US Navy, it is likely that the Australian government has also instigated the shadow of the United States behind this obstruction!
