On September 21, just when almost everyone thought it was "impossible", Gan Yu was searched and rescued in the lofty mountains, and the 28-year-old boy who was trapped and lost contact for 17 days miraculously survived!

After the "9.5" Luding earthquake, the mountains collapsed, the roads were blocked, and Gan Yu and Luo Yong, employees of the Luding Bay East Hydropower Station, who were in a desperate situation, touched the hearts of hundreds of millions of people.

On September 6, Gan Yu and Luo Yong escaped from the hydropower station together, and on the way, their mobile phones briefly received a communication number, they contacted the company for help, and reported to their families that they were safe, which was the last time Gan Yu called the outside world before he was rescued.

On September 7, the physically exhausted Gan Yu did not want to drag Luo Yong down, the two separated from each other, and the next day Luo Yong lit a fire and smoked and was rescued by helicopter, and people learned from him accurate information that Gan Yu had not yet escaped from his predicament.

At this time, people learned that after the earthquake, Luo Yong risked opening two flood gates to avoid the flood of water levels and dams from washing away the villages downstream; Only then did he know that he and Gan Yu cut off the electric gate of the generator in the plant in time, further avoiding a huge risk. After sticking to their posts and doing this, they missed the opportunity to escape at the first time.

"Where is Gan Yu?" "Did Gan Yu find it?" In the following ten days, neither the rescue organized by the command headquarters nor the continuous search and rescue carried out by the civilian forces did not bring the news that people expected. Until September 21, Ni Taigao, a villager in Yuejin Village, Wanggangping Township, Asbestos County, found Gan Yu in Menghugang...

Trapped for seventeen days, the body has many soft tissue contusions, rib fractures, left lower limb fibula fractures, accompanied by serious infection, people marvel at the "good man" Gan Yu's tenacious vitality.

On September 26, Gan Yu, who had been transferred from the ICU ward of West China Hospital of Sichuan University to the general ward, told reporters the thrilling story of his hope, victory over despair, and lonely survival.

On September 26, Gan Yu sent a video message from his hospital bed to report that he was safe.

1 When in crisis: save workers, open the sluice

At 12:52 on September 5, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake suddenly occurred in Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, and the spasm of 16 kilometers underground brought about a serious disaster of rock collapse and road damage. Located in Detuo Town, Luding County, the Wandong Hydropower Station is close to the source of the earthquake, not only casualties, damage to facilities, the landslide in the upper reaches of the Wandong River has also formed a dammed lake, if the power station does not open the floodgates in time, the consequences are unimaginable.

Gan Yu: When the earthquake struck that day, we happened to be on lunch break. I majored in civil engineering, working in the power station construction team, and a few workers and I rushed out of the break room, looking around, everywhere was collapsing, and we had to hide everywhere. In the process, a stone knocked me down the slope. My glasses were knocked off, and I climbed on the ground to the dam platform, which was concrete, and no stones flew down, which was relatively safe. Some places collapsed so badly that I saw two workers being stoned to the ground, so I went to rescue them. At that time, we met Luo Yong, who was a water worker, and together we dragged the two workers aside and found them a cover. They were so badly injured that after an hour or two, they ran out of gas.

The earthquake was so brutal that one of my co-workers was buried under the stone, the stone was so big that I couldn't push it, and it was collapsing, and soon I completely buried people in it. We couldn't get him out.

Luding Bay East Hydropower Station

There are more than 10 employees at the hydropower station, and everyone ran away after the earthquake. I was with Luo Yong, when the ground was not shaking, we both discussed, the flood gate was not opened, the water of the dam was closed, if there was a flood dam and a dam failure, it would be very dangerous, and the people and villages downstream would be washed away.

So, we decided to go up and release the dam's water, otherwise it would really flood the dam and we wouldn't be able to run away. After waiting a little longer, and when the surrounding mountains were stable, Luo Yong ventured to climb the shoulder of the dam and use a diesel generator to generate electricity, opening the two flood gates and letting the water flow out along the pipe. At the time, I was taking care of the injured below. But how well the flood will work, we are not sure. That night, we spent the night on the shoulder of the dam, and we stared at the change in the water level to see if it was released.

2 dangerous differences: do not drag, wait for teammates

Luding County is located in the Hengduan Mountain Range on the southeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which belongs to a typical alpine valley area, with high mountains and lush vegetation, steep valley walls, and interlaced ravines, and the special terrain and landform and the severe situation of road interruption and communication interruption after the earthquake, which brings great difficulties and challenges to the search and rescue work. The headquarters used a combination of ground search and rescue teams and aerial helicopters to search and rescue Gan Yu and Luo Yong.

Gan Yu: We spent the night at the power station, and we felt that the surrounding mountains were unstable, so we went out for help the next day. I am 500 degrees short-sighted and can only see more than 10 meters away during the day. Luo Yong found a rope and led me. I had a cell phone on me, but I didn't have a power cord, and it didn't work to have a power cord at that time. We walked for a while, the mobile phone received a signal, we quickly called the company for help. But there was no signal in the back, and the phone ran out of power the next day.

We could hear the helicopter, but the mountains were too big and the woods were so lush that we couldn't see where the helicopter was. We didn't have lighters on us, we had stones and fresh grass on the ground, and we couldn't light a fire and smoke. I put on a white dress, took off and hung on a branch to shake, ran to the landslide to shake, and without attracting the attention of the helicopter, it flew away.

We only had a bottle of water, hadn't eaten in two days, and were severely overdrawn. Moreover, I have no experience in wild sports, adventure camping, etc., and my physical strength is not able to catch up with Luo Yong. He is a local villager and is familiar with the terrain. I couldn't walk, so I said to him, you go to the rescue team first, I'll wait where I am. What I thought was that if two people continued to walk together, I dragged him down, and maybe neither of them could get out. But if he can find the rescue team and rescue me first, we can both get out alive.

We made an appointment, and when we were rescued, we would go to Moxi Town or where to go to the restaurant to rub a meal, the dishes did not need to be complicated, just simple. I probably waited for two or three days, but before anyone came, I thought that he was afraid that he would be killed in an aftershock on the way. I can't wait any longer. He pointed me in a direction before he left, and I followed in the direction he was pointing.

3 wilderness survival: sleeping stone seams, drinking urine

The Wandong River is the boundary river between Luding County in Ganzi Prefecture and Asbestos County in Ya'an City, and rescuers did not expect it, and after separating from Luo Yong, Gan Yu came to Menghugang in Asbestos County in the forest of Mangmang. Although 72 hours of golden rescue and the stage of earthquake emergency rescue have passed, the search and rescue of Gan Yu has not ended, and a social professional rescue team has taken over the search and rescue baton. People shouted eagerly, and Gan Yu stood up.

Gan Yu: The direction Luo Yong is pointing to is the direction of the fierce tiger gang, he said, there are meadows on that mountain, there are cattle and sheep, maybe they will meet people.

To get to Tiger Hill, I have to keep climbing the mountain. Because there is a landslide body, it is impossible to follow any fixed route, and sometimes it is impossible to recognize the direction when you turn over the landslide and walk along. About the fourth or fifth day, I found a small creek ditch, and when I went to find water to drink, a stone rolled down on it and injured my foot. It was later learned that it was a fracture.

My feet hurt a lot, and I shouted a few times as I walked, but no one responded, which was more difficult. But I can think openly, such a big disaster, I can survive it is very lucky. I still have a lot of things I haven't eaten, and there are people whose families haven't seen it yet, and I must survive.

Of the 17 days, I remember 2 days without rain. The visibility on the mountain is not high, I go every day at eleven or twelve o'clock, and at about three or four o'clock in the afternoon I will find a "nest" to rest, sometimes under the tree, sometimes under the rock, curled up in it. At first, I also found some leaves and other shops, and then my clothes and pants were rotten, so I didn't care about that much, I just shrunk in and hid. The weather was very cold, only ten degrees at night, I could hear the cries of wild animals, but I did not touch it, so I still tried to sleep as little as possible at night to avoid being found by wild animals. At that time, I was really not sleepy, the sun came out, just find a place to doze off for a while. Because of the rain, I wear a raincoat and my upper body is dry, but my lower body is usually wet. When the sun came out, I lay on the ground and basked in the sun.

The biggest challenge is hunger. At the foot of the mountain it is good to say, there is a stream or something, I tore off the hat of the raincoat to get water. But there was no water in the mountains. I've watched Bell's "Survival in the Wilderness" video and learned to drink moss water as it looked. It was raining every day, the moss was wet, grab a handful and suck hard. It was a hassle on a sunny day, tired and dry, and I had to drink my own urine. Fortunately, this season can eat wild kiwifruit, I can't see clearly, touch it from the ground to pick it up and identify it, rely on it to fill the hunger.

Later, there is no concept of time. Sometimes I get tired of walking and take a break and wake up thinking the day is over, so I always feel like I've been inside for more than 30 days.

4 Good Guys: A "Help", a "Oh Oh"

Ni Taigao, a villager in Yuejin Village, Wanggangping Township, Asbestos County, met the search and rescue personnel when he went into the mountains to find sheep, and after hearing Gan Yu's story, Lao Ni decided to look for this good person who did not know him at the same time as looking for sheep. The first day was not found, and the next day (21st) at 7 o'clock in the morning, he heard a weak "help" sound.

Gan Yu: I was injured on my foot, and it hurt to drag me at first, but then I became numb as I walked. I didn't have the idea of giving up, I thought someone must be looking for me, and I had to report to my family that I was safe and must live.

I followed the direction Luo Yong pointed and really walked step by step to the place where the cattle and sheep were herded. I waited on the top for a few days without seeing anyone, and then I learned that the villagers had been relocated at that time, and I had to go down.

As I walked down, I felt that I was on the right path, not only the traces of people walking, but also the opposite road and village. My intuition told me that I was going to meet someone today, and I was there desperately shouting "help" and I heard a few "oh oh" responses. After a while, Brother Ni came to my rescue. I was so excited and cried with excitement that someone finally found me and could get out alive.

Gan Yu: Thank you for your concern, thank you to Brother Ni and the rescue team for finally saving me, and thank you to the party committee and government for not giving up on me. When I am well, I will thank them in person, and I will be with my family.

During this time, my mother came to the hospital and brought me new glasses. I opened my phone and it was full of all kinds of blessing and wishing messages. Some people on the Internet say that I am a hero, I really dare not be, this is just an experience that I can survive, and saving people is not my business.

Gan Yu and Luo Yong, who had been transferred from the ICU ward back to the general ward, had a video call on September 26.

This escape from death made me feel that nothing was more important than life, and it was good to be alive. Now, apart from some fractures, my body is recovering well. When I recover, I should still go back to my old business, do a good job in a down-to-earth manner, and live up to everyone's concern.
