Debunk the rumors again! Ancient Egyptian script has not changed for thousands of years?! Who told you that. [Punch in the face] [Punch in the face]
Ancient Egyptian scripts first appeared slightly earlier than 3200 BC and were still in use until 1100 AD. It is used over a time span of at least 4300 years, making it the longest-used script in the world known.
During this period, this script went through the following stages of development.
1. Old Egyptian – 2600 BC – 2100 BC (Figure 1);
2. Middle Egyptian – 2100 BC – about 1600 BC (Figure 2);
3. Late Egyptian – 1600 BC - 600 BC (Figure 3);
To the layman, the above three stages of the text seem to be no difference, but to the insider, there is a huge difference between them, and this difference is mainly reflected in the composition of words and grammatical structure.
4. Secular Egyptian (Demotic) – 650 BC - 5th century AD (Figure 4);
5. Coptic – 1st century AD - 11th century AD (Figure 5);
Even today, in Coptic churches in Egypt, the Coptic language is still spoken. So, strictly speaking, coptic has not completely disappeared, but fewer people can read it.
