It is said that when I was traveling by car in the Faroe Islands, which belongs to Denmark, I came around the ancient village near its capital, Thors Harbour, when I came across the scene in Figure 4.
At that moment, I was a little confused - could it be that I really met the elf?
Because this village is close to the sea, it is very old, and it is very pristine; Coupled with the fact that the houses in the Faroe Islands villages are not only unique (Fig. 5-7), but also have a fantastic fairy tale color, which is why I have such a sense of substitution.
Slowly walking in the direction of the "little elf", I couldn't help but laugh.
It turned out to be a very young girl in the village, wearing her beloved princess dress, running to play on the grass by the creek.
Well, she really looks like a "pixie"!
With the consent of the little girl's mother, I took two pictures of her (Figures 8 and 9).
Figure 10 is the house opposite the little girl's home, this grass-roofed house is one of the symbols of the Faroe Islands.
The grass-roofed house looks not only very simple, but also very original, it is actually an architectural system that the people on the island have slowly solidified to adapt to the unique climate of the island.
The Faroe Islands have a cold climate, almost 300 days a year, 365 days a year, and it is either raining or windy.
Such a grass-roofed house not only helps to keep warm, but also helps to achieve "windproof sand fixation" on the roof.
It's easy to do – it's about laying a layer of planting soil on the roof and sprinkling it with wild grass seeds.
It's also simple to maintain – there are only more than 50,000 people on the Faroe Islands, but more than 80,000 sheep; So the way to maintain the roof is to put the sheep on the roof and let them "trim" the turf on the roof with their mouths.
