The award ceremony will be held on November 30 in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

The Ramon Magsay Prize is an annual award named after the President of the Philippines who lost his life in a plane crash in 1957 in recognition of those who have contributed to peace and development in Asia.

Hiroshi Hattori, a 58-year-old Japanese ophthalmologist, has traveled to Vietnam over the past 20 years to pay for cataracts and other eye diseases for people in need, and has also established the Asian Blindness Prevention Association, which has treated more than 20,000 people over the years.

The other three winners were Madrid, a Filipino pediatrician 64, Sosilachin, a Cambodian, 54, and Ben Cejib, a 27-year-old Frenchman.

Pediatrician Madrid has provided medical, legal and social assistance to thousands of battered children and their families in the Philippines.
