Finding places on the map with as many names as Easter Island is not an easy task. Here are the common Easter Island names:

✅Rapa Nui: Rapa Nui (Polynesian);

✅Isla de Pascua: Spanish;

✅Easter Island: English.

But that's just the beginning...

Here are the various names associated with the history of Easter Island:

✅Te Pito or Te Henua: The oldest name of the island, meaning "navel of the world" or "end of the earth," is said to have been given to the island when ariki Hotu Matu'a, the first king of the island, came to Playa de Anakena with two boats. The white sand beach faces the azure waters and is backed by a palm tree.

✅Te Kainga: Another school of archaeologists believes that the indigenous people did not name the island when they first came here, but only used Te Kainga, which means earth, representing the extreme isolation of the island's geographical location and does not need to be distinguished from other places.

✅Mata Ki Te Rangi: Another name that appears in oral tradition refers to Easter Island, meaning "eyes looking up at the sky", and is said to be related to the two volcanic inland lakes of Rano Kau and Rano Raraku that reflect the night sky on the island, and another theory is related to the eyes of the lost Moai stone statue. Either way, the name is a good name that is loud, beautiful, and poetic.

✅Paasch Eyland: Dutch. Beginning in the 15th century, Portugal, Spain and many other European countries arranged many sea expeditions in order to discover new lands, map and expand trade routes and political interests.

On 16 July 1721, the Dutchman Jacob Roggeveen and a fleet of three ships set sail from the Dutch island of Texel to begin their expedition, and after a long detour around Cape Horn, in March 1722, the Dutch expedition reached the Chilean coast and then fetched water and food at The island of Juan Fernández. After a short stop, continue your search for Davis Land, which was discovered and named after the British pirate Edward Davis.

On April 5, 1722, Easter Sunday, the expedition discovered an island on the horizon that did not appear on the map, and named it after the festival of the day in this Chinese, which is where the name Easter Island came from, and was later translated into Spanish and English.
