Tatacoa Desert, Colombia: Once a garden turned into a desert
August 15, 2022 local time, Colombia, Villavieja, Tatacoa Desert. The Tatacoa Desert in Villavieja is the second arid region in Colombia, covering more than 330 square kilometers.
According to scientific discoveries, Tatakoa in the Tertiary Period was once a garden with thousands of flowers and trees, which gradually dried up until it became a desert. Tatakoa is heavily eroded, and very few animals and vegetables adapt to the humidity and heat here.
Wild animals such as turtles, rodents, snakes, spiders, scorpions, eagles, lizards and ocelots live in this land and can hide in cacti up to 4 to 5 meters high.
The Tatacoa Desert has two distinct colors: ochre in the Cusco region and gray in the Los Hoyos region.
At about 4 a.m. local time on April 17, in front of the Butler Library of Columbia University in New York City, many students set up tents on the lawn and established the "Gaza Solidarity Camp".
