Economic life

The vast majority of Yemen's inhabitants are Arabs, with a very small proportion of Africans. Yemen is economically backward and is one of the world's least developed countries, with a real fiscal deficit of about US$1 billion in 2018. Economic development is mainly dependent on oil export earnings, food is not self-sufficient, and about 1/2 depends on imports. In recent years, the government has worked to reduce budget deficits and government spending, and has worked hard to control inflation and stabilize prices.
