When the "Nameless Princess" was killed 40 years ago, it was a pending case because of her unrecognizable and unidentified identity. In 2022, through DNA genealogy comparison, her identity was finally determined, and the murderer was officially charged. This makes people have to sigh that the power of science and technology is too powerful.
On July 15, 1982, a female corpse was found at the Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown, New Jersey, usa, beaten beyond recognition, and so badly decomposed that even the color of her eyes could not be recognized.
She was wearing a red short-sleeved shirt and a folk-style skirt and did not find her underwear. Because the body had some degree of decay, it was difficult to determine whether she had been sexually assaulted during her lifetime. A golden cross necklace was found in the victim's hair, wearing two earrings on his left ear.
Forensic specialists determined that the victim was not pregnant and had never given birth, estimating that she was between the ages of 14 and 18 at the time of her death. Toxicology found no traces of the drug, but since she had been dead for some time (estimated to have been dead for at least three or four days), it was not entirely certain.
She became the first unidentified deceased to enter the U.S. Crime Information Center, because there were no witnesses and no clues, which became an open case.
Because no one knew who she was, Eric Kranz, the chief investigator in charge of the investigation in the first place, gave her a affectionate name, "The Nameless Princess." The name is so good that in the eyes of every parent, the daughter is a princess.
Locals paid to bury her near the place where she was found, and the tombstone read: "The nameless princess, missing from home, died among strangers, remembered by everyone". In the days to come, on the occasion of the 5th and 10th anniversaries, nearby residents will visit her cemetery to commemorate her.
At first, the "Nameless Princess" was thought to be a missing teenage girl from San Jose, California, Diane Day, who disappeared after she left home on July 30, 1979, when she was 13 years old. In 2003, forensic doctors compared the DNA of the "Nameless Princess" with dna samples from Diane's mother, Patricia, and determined that she was not Diane Day.
Over the years, although the case has no clue, the police have not given up, but also set up a "nameless princess" website, the relevant clues of the case, including her clothing, physical characteristics and other text, photos and other information when she was found, hoping that someone can provide more clues.
In 1999, a woman named Donna Kinlaw was arrested in California for welfare fraud. When the police interrogated her, she confessed to the murder of two women by her husband, Arthur Kinlaw.
In 2005, after Arthur faced a possible death sentence, Donna told police that Arthur had killed another woman in July 1982 and that she had witnessed him commit murder at the cemetery.
However, the lack of supporting evidence kept Arthur unlaimed. Lieutenant Stephen Spears, a member of the Warren County Prosecutor's Office (now retired), said, "Arthur claims responsibility for her death. But I don't have physical evidence to confirm this, and the identity of the "Nameless Princess" is unknown, and I can't connect these bits and pieces. Spears also reported that he was suspicious of the confession because Arthur was unable to provide the name and identity of the "nameless princess," even though they claimed to have been with her for some time.
On July 15, 2022, the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the body of the "Unknown Princess," the New Jersey State Police and numerous law enforcement and assistance agencies held a press conference. The press conference announced that after several months of DNA extraction, mapping, preliminary screening, and final sampling and comparison, a series of DNA verification procedures were carried out. The Nameless Princess was identified as Dawn Rita Olanick, 17, from Long Island, New York, on April 29, 2022.
She left home around June 24, 1982, and has never seen or heard from her again. Arthur Kinlaw, 68, was charged with the murder of Orannick, who, according to him, refused his request for prostitution, so he murdered her.
"In New Jersey, there is no time limit for justice." Acting Attorney General Matthew Prattkin said at a news conference.
Kranz, the investigator who originally named her "The Princess Without a Name," said after the press conference: "It's nice to know she has a name. ”
