In 1947, he traveled 8,000 kilometers of the Pacific Ocean on a handmade raft for 101 days from South America to the Tuamotu Islands. Just to prove an idea: ancient people could make long sea voyages and thus make connections between societies.

He was Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian anthropologist, marine biologist, and explorer.

Heyerdahl also made other voyages to demonstrate the possibility of contact between ancient peoples who were far apart, notably the Ra II (Figure 3) expedition in 1970, when he sailed from the west coast of Africa to Barbados in a papyrus reed boat.

He died in Italy on April 18, 2002, while visiting relatives. The Norwegian government held a state funeral for him at Oslo Cathedral on 26 April 2002.
