Despite its fairly small size, a single blue-circled octopus carries enough toxin to kill 26 adults at a time in minutes. The toxins secreted by blue-circled octopuses contain puffer toxins, serotonin, histamine, octopamine and other substances, and the main neurotoxin is pufferfish toxin. Poisoning can lead to muscle paralysis, and the injured person cannot breathe or react even if he is conscious.
