Taiwan's Past: The History of the Development of the Democratic Progressive Party

author:Bodhisattvas fear the consequences of all beings

Taiwan is a part of China and looks forward to the early return of Taiwan Province to the motherland!!!!

December 15, 1978, late at night, 2 a.m.

Taiwan's supreme leader, Chiang Ching-kuo, was already asleep at this time.

Taiwan's Past: The History of the Development of the Democratic Progressive Party

He was diabetic, physically tortured, and needed to recuperate, so no one dared to disturb him late at night.

But there is a man who dares, his name is Song Chuyu.

Soong Chu-yu became the chairman of Taiwan's People First Party and served as the governor of Taiwan Province. But at this time, he was still just a director of the information bureau under Chiang Ching-kuo.

Song Chuyu did not eat the bear's heart and leopard bile, he was well aware of Chiang Ching-kuo's temper, he woke him up late at night, and once he annoyed him, he was probably not the director of the bureau.

He was also very afraid, but there was no way, there was a matter of 100,000 urgent matters, and he had to report to Chiang Ching-kuo immediately.

Therefore, Song Chuyu couldn't care less, like walking on thin ice at night, he broke into Chiang Ching-kuo's "sleeping palace", and in fear and fear, he woke up Chiang Ching-kuo from his dream, and then told him:

U.S. Ambassador to China Anke wants to see you!

Jiang Chingguo knew that the situation was serious, and received An Kezhi late at night, and then he heard a "blowing thunder":

President Carter of the United States will establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China and sever diplomatic relations with Taiwan, abrogate the U.S. defense treaty against Taiwan, and withdraw all troops stationed in Taiwan!

Chiang Ching-kuo was like a wooden chicken, shocked and angry.

Because an election vote was being held at that time, this news was bound to have an unprecedented impact on Taiwan, and the people who were worried about Taiwan's status and future would feel confused and anxious, and would be angry at the incompetence of the Nationalist government, and the support rate would plummet, and the election was likely to cause the Kuomintang to fail miserably, and eventually lead to the collapse of the Nationalist regime.

Returning to God, he immediately made a decision and asked Song Chuyu to immediately take a series of measures:

Issue an "emergency order";

Declare martial law to the entire army;

Stop all campaigns that were taking place at the time;

Inform Wang Sheng, director of the Intelligence Bureau, to be on standby at any time, and if anyone dares to take this opportunity to make trouble, suppress it by force!

Once again, white terror hung over Taiwan.

In 1949, Chiang Kai-shek's father and son were defeated and retreated to Taiwan, and in order to control the situation, unite people's hearts and minds, strengthen centralized rule, promulgate martial law and temporary provisions for the period of mobilization to suppress rebellion, strictly control public opinion, and arrest dissidents on a large scale.

Lei Zhen founded "Free China", issued an article pointing fingers at Chiang Kai-shek, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Peng Mingmin issued the Declaration of Taiwan's Self-Help and was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Teresa Teng's song "He Rijun Comes Again" was accused of expecting the Eighth Route Army to come again and was banned.

Even the long-sung folk song, because there is a sentence "Xiao Mao's brother, take him to catch loach", this Little Mao was associated with Mao Zedong by the Taiwan authorities, and the lyrics were forced to be changed to "Little Cow".

Under authoritarian rule, everyone in Taiwan is in danger, especially the radical intellectuals, who feel extremely depressed, and they are eager to find a catharsis!

After Chiang Ching-kuo issued martial law, Yu Dengfa, the county magistrate of Kaohsiung County, and his son were arrested at home on trumped-up charges.

In extraordinary times, once caught, it is easy to be beheaded. Xu Xinliang, the county magistrate of Taoyuan County, led a large number of people and horses to kaohsiung bridgehead to hold a large-scale parade in order to rescue Yu Dengfa's father and son.

The momentum was huge, and Wang Sheng, director of the Intelligence Bureau, hurried to report to Chiang Ching-kuo. Chiang Ching-kuo was furious, defining the march as a challenge to the "central authorities" and ordering the "Control Yuan" to impeach Xu Xinliang.

Xu Xinliang was dismissed from all positions, he knew that things were not good, the next step was likely to be arrested and killed, and he ran overseas in disguise overnight.

He ran, who's next? Under political pressure, everyone is like a great enemy.

As a result, radicals outside the party decided to unite and support each other.

Because the ban on the party had not yet been lifted, it was obviously impossible to form a party opposed to the Kuomintang, and a non-party figure named Huang Xinjie decided to start a magazine to fight the Kuomintang with a pen.

This magazine is called Formosa Boulevard.

Chiang Ching-kuo, who was in his prime and sick, was now facing a taiwan with internal and external difficulties.

Externally, Japan has severed diplomatic relations with Taiwan, the United States has severed diplomatic relations with Taiwan, and European countries must also sever diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

Internally, people outside the party are increasingly restless, demanding democracy and demanding political reform, and they are constantly fighting against the Taiwan authorities and putting increasing pressure on the Kuomintang.

In order to stabilize the situation and conform to the will of the people, Chiang Ching-kuo acquiesced in the existence of "Formosa Boulevard" magazine, which led to the birth of the Dpp in the future and also planted a seed for the Taiwan independence forces in the future.

In order to strengthen the momentum of the magazine, Huang Xinjie, who was alone, brought a large number of partners to start the magazine together.

There was Xu Xinliang, the county magistrate of Taoyuan County, who had escaped, Annette Lu, who had just returned from Harvard University in the United States, and Zhang Junhong, Shi Mingde, Yao Jiawen, Lin Yixiong, Chen Ju, and others.

Taiwan's Past: The History of the Development of the Democratic Progressive Party

As soon as the magazine was launched, it became an unprecedented popularity; they criticized the current politics, used fierce rhetoric, and constantly challenged the authority of the Kuomintang, and were warmly welcomed by the Taiwanese who had been suppressed for a long time.

"Formosa Boulevard" developed rapidly, setting up service offices throughout Taiwan, and recruiting almost all non-party figures to join, who huddled together to keep warm, and fought against the Kuomintang.

At this time, The Beautiful Island had actually become a political party without a party name, and their remarks and ideas seriously threatened the rule of the Kuomintang.

10 December 1979 was International Human Rights Day.

The Kuomintang authorities received news that the magazine "Formosa Boulevard" would hold a rally in Kaohsiung City on this day to expand the magazine's influence.

So the Kuomintang announced that it would hold a "winter curfew exercise" on this day, prohibiting anyone from gathering for a walk.

Gendarmerie, police and security units were also stationed in Kaohsiung to block traffic.

But there are many people who are not afraid of death, including the general manager of "Formosa Boulevard" magazine: Shi Mingde.

Shi Mingde, known as a "tough guy", is a legendary figure, was admitted to the military academy at the age of 18, because of his relatively rebellious personality, was arrested for "planning Taiwan independence crimes", severely tortured, all his teeth were knocked out, and he was locked up for 15 years before being released. A seed of hatred was planted in his heart.

Shi Mingde, Annette Lu, and others led men and horses, armed with torches and wooden sticks, broke through the Kuomintang blockade, shouted slogans such as "Down with the rule of secret agents" and "oppose the Kuomintang dictatorship," and marched in the streets.

Under his shouts, the procession grew to tens of thousands.

Because Chiang Ching-kuo issued an order not to allow the police to shoot, the police could only block with shields and use tear gas to drive the procession away.

The excited team fought back with sticks and stones.

Tens of thousands of people fought in the street, chaotic, the scene can be imagined.

Seeing that things have become big, Chen Ju and other leaders of The Beautiful Island Magazine have begun to worry, will they be arrested?

This kind of worry is purely superfluous, because the leaders such as Shi Mingde Lu Xiulian have completely lost control of the scene.

When Chiang Ching-kuo heard that the situation was out of control, he was furious and ordered a comprehensive crackdown!

Shi Mingde, Annette Lu, Chen Ju and other leaders fled one after another, but to no avail, Chiang Ching-kuo issued an island-wide wanted warrant, the magazine "Beautiful Island" was wiped out, and the magazine was shut down.

The Formosa Boulevard incident was characterized by Chiang Ching-kuo as a "premeditated and organized violent rebellion incident", and 8 main members, including Huang Xinjie, Yao Jiawen, Lin Hongxuan, Zhang Junhong, Chen Ju, Shi Mingde, Annette Lu, and Lin Yixiong, were characterized as "bandit leaders" and sent to military court.

During martial law, military justice, there is very little chance of surviving.

Chiang Ching-kuo did intend to kill a group of people at first and leave them in life, but the Formosa Boulevard incident was too big and had attracted international attention.

Overseas public opinion is overwhelmingly in solidarity with these non-party figures, and even the United States has extended a black hand and exerted strong pressure that a public trial must be held and that a light sentence must be imposed.

Chiang Ching-kuo originally did not want to bird these people, and instructed Song Chuyu, director of the Information Bureau, to start a propaganda machine and give a public speech, accusing the People of Formosa Boulevard as violent elements who provoked trouble and the Incident in Formosa Formosa with the intention of subverting the regime.

In the end, it also canceled the Associated Press's interview rights in Taiwan, and pushed the United States back.

But at this time, One of the main criminals of the beautiful island, Lin Yixiong, who was imprisoned, was destroyed at home.

The spearhead is directed at Chiang Ching-kuo, and the outside world generally believes that Lin Yixiong has been imprisoned and has run to kill his entire family.

Chiang Ching-kuo was distraught and instructed the relevant departments to conduct a strict investigation, but the investigation came and went, and no results could be found. The pot of this massacre is still stuck on his head.

In order to calm the pressure of outside public opinion, Chiang Ching-kuo had to give in, agreed to a public trial, and agreed to assign two defense lawyers to each of the main offenders.

The righteous deeds of these rioters touched people outside the party, and in order to reduce their sentences, they ran around and sought them defense lawyers.

As a result, the door of Chen Shui-bian's house was knocked open.

At this time, Chen Shui-bian had not yet become the "president" of Taiwan, he was not yet 30 years old, and he was just a budding lawyer.

Someone asked him if he could appear in court and serve as a defense lawyer for the main culprit in the Formosa Boulevard incident, Huang Shinsuke.

Chen Shui-bian refused.

At this time, Taiwan was still a one-party dictatorship of the Kuomintang, with political high pressure and white terror, and it was very easy to get angry with political prisoners in such an environment, and Chen Shui-bian did not dare to take this risk.

The person who came also said that he would give 200,000 yuan a huge defense fee.

Chen Shui-bian was still unmoved.

But at this time, Chen Shui-bian's wife said a word:

This kind of big case that all walks of life, even overseas, are paying attention to, with your talents, do not show it?

Chen Shui-bian thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.

In addition to Chen Shui-bian, 15 other invited defense lawyers included Xie Changting, Su Zhenchang, and Chen Junxiong.

In the end, thanks to the efforts of a group of defense lawyers, the capital offense of "intending to subvert the regime" was lightly sentenced, and except for Shi Mingde, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, everyone else was sentenced to only a few years.

Whether it is 8 defendants or 15 defense lawyers, they have become the focus of Taiwan' attention and have become heroes in the minds of people outside the party, and they have made enough political capital for them to enter the political arena in the future.

In the ensuing general election, defense lawyers Chen Shui-bian, Su Zhenchang, Xie Changting, and others who rose to prominence in the Formosa Boulevard trial were elected as "legislators" and county and municipal councilors, and Chen Shui-bian was elected as a Taipei City Councilor with the highest number of votes.

The 8 main criminals of the Formosa Boulevard incident, because they were imprisoned, their families became beneficiaries, and they were elected as "legislators" and "congress deputies" by non-party figures, laying the foundation for their political path after their release from prison.

More and more people have jumped onto the political stage, the strength of people outside the party has continued to grow, the right to speak has become more and more sufficient, and the chips to compete with the Kuomintang are getting bigger and bigger.

In May 1986, hundreds of non-party figures rallied in Taipei to demand that the Kuomintang authorities lift martial law and lift the party ban.

In order to conform to the will of the people, Chiang Ching-kuo practiced enlightened politics and allowed non-party personages to form political parties.

However, he set a bottom line: All political parties are not allowed to stand independence, otherwise they will directly ban suppression!

In 1986, the Democratic Progressive Party was founded in Taipei, referred to as the Democratic Progressive Party. The purpose of the founding of the party is to pursue democracy and freedom.

Because all the big men of Formosa Boulevard were imprisoned, Jiang Pengjian picked up a bargain and served as the first party chairman.

After that, the big guys of Formosa Boulevard began to get out of prison one after another,

In 1987, Yao Jiawen became the second chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

In 1988, Huang Xinjie served as the third and fourth chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

In 1992, Xu Xinliang became the fifth chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

In 1994, Shi Mingde became the sixth chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

In 1996, Xu Xinliang became the seventh chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

In 1998, Lin Yixiong became the eighth chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

It can be seen that the previous party chairmen were all the main culprits arrested in the Formosa Boulevard incident.

From the ninth term of office, Xie Changting, Chen Shui-bian, Su Zhenchang and others successively became party chairmen.

Taiwan's Past: The History of the Development of the Democratic Progressive Party

These are all defense lawyers for the Formosa Boulevard incident.

The original DPP, which was weak in strength and was crushed to death by the KMT, had difficulty in making a difference and had little influence.

After Chiang Ching-kuo's death, Lee Teng-hui, the "godfather of Taiwan independence," came to power. With great power in his hands, he revealed the vicious face of Taiwan independence.

Chiang Ching-kuo's bones were not cold, and his heroic spirit was not far away, so he abolished Chiang Ching-kuo's blacklist of Taiwan independence and allowed Taiwan independence elements to enter Taiwan.

He not only preached Taiwan independence within the Kuomintang, but also infiltrated the idea of Taiwan independence into the DPP.

In order to make the DPP stronger, he also played a one-handed operation, using the POLITICAL resources and money of the KMT to fund and support the DPP.

This is the "milk theory," using the milk of the Kuomintang to feed the DPP little by little.

Under the meticulous "care" of Lee Teng-hui, the DPP has continued to grow stronger and worse, and has slowly deviated from its original purpose of party building.

In 2000, the Democratic Progressive Party led by Chen Shui-bian defeated the Kuomintang in one fell swoop and pulled down the Kuomintang, which had ruled the Taiwan region for more than 50 years.

The DPP has become the ruling party in Taiwan!

Later DPP leaders Chen Shui-bian and Tsai Ing-wen were loyal "students" of Lee Teng-hui and were deeply influenced by Lee Teng-hui's ideas on Taiwan independence.

They hold high the "Taiwan independence" soul flag, drag Taiwan into the abyss, spread the notoriety of the Dpp all over the world, and Chen Shui-bian and Tsai Ing-wen are destined to leave behind an infamy for eternity!

The eyes of the people of Taiwan are shining, and there is a saying circulating in Taiwan:

The traitor sits in the first three rows, and the enemy is on the podium!

When you see this, give it a thumbs up!
