Bath's father was a decorative painter, architect, dean of the Academy of Decorative Arts in Brussels and a member of the Committee on Historical Monuments (Historical Documentation).
Together with his father's workers, Bass developed the pastel technique on canvas. His pastel technique is exquisite, the colors are bright and soft, and the lines of his works are clear and delicate. His portraits are also very well portrayed, especially in the light.
