Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion who has won 23 Grand Slams, announced her retirement on August 9, and she will devote more energy to her family and personal business interests. Announcing the imminent end of his extraordinary sporting career, Serena Williams said: "The countdown has begun".

Serena, who will celebrate her 41st birthday next month, announced her impending retirement in an interview with Vogue on Tuesday. At the Toronto Open on Wednesday night, Serena sadly withdrew after losing to 25-year-old Swiss tennis rising star Belinda Bencic, receiving a standing ovation as she left the arena with flowers in her hand.

Serena won her first U.S. Open title in 1999 and has won a total of 73 titles in her current tennis career, with a win rate of 84.8 percent. Serena and her sister Venus Williams have long won Grand Slams in tennis singles and doubles consecutively and are considered legends in American tennis, and their deeds have also been made into the movie "King Richard King Richard", starring Will Smith, released in 2021.

For now, Serena did not explicitly mention the timing of her last tennis match, but the media expected it could be the U.S. Open that opens in New York on Aug. 29.
