Rupert Murdoch was born on 11 March 1931 on a farm 30 miles south of Melbourne, Australia, and graduated from Worcester College, Oxford. He is a world newspaper tycoon, a well-known news and media operator in the United States, a major shareholder of News Corp., chairman and chief executive officer. Murdoch's News Corp empire controls Fox News and the Wall Street Journal in the United States, as well as major media outlets such as Britain's Sun and The Times. Murdoch also sold a majority stake in 21st Century Fox to the Walt Disney Company. In 2018, his eldest son, Lackland, was named his successor.
