The Golden Carriage of the British Royal Family, which lasted two years and was completed in 1762, is the third oldest surviving carriage in England. Four restorations have been carried out over the centuries, leaving at least seven layers of gilding and embellishments on the statue.

Designed by Sir William Chambers, George III's architectural adviser and built by carriage maker Samuel Butler, the car was about 23 feet long and 12 feet high and made of gilded wood. It weighed four tons and was pulled at the speed of walking using eight horses.

In 1953, during the coronation of the young Queen Elizabeth II, the golden carriage transported her from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for the first time.

The exterior is decorated with ornate sculptures of cherubs and mermaids that demonstrate the unity and strength of the nation, featuring panel paintings that are striking works of art. Inside, it's equally finely decorated with velvet and satin. A huge sea shield is carved on each wheel to show imperial power. Its body is decorated with palm trees and lion heads, as well as other motifs celebrating the victory of the British Navy. One of its front panels is engraved with a warrior wearing a helmet.
