According to Yonhap News Agency reported on May 3, south Korea's Joint Staff Headquarters (Joint Staff) said on the 4th that north Korea fired a ballistic missile into the eastern sea at 12:03 p.m. in Pyongyang's Shun'an area, with a flight distance of about 470 kilometers, a flight altitude of about 780 kilometers, and a speed of Mach 11. South Korean and U.S. intelligence agencies are further analyzing the detailed parameters.

Observer Network military commentators believe that according to the high-range formula, if the ROK military data is true, the range of the missile tested by North Korea is more than 2,000 kilometers. Generally speaking, missiles with a velocity of more than Mach 5 in the atmosphere are hypersonic missiles, and it is likely that North Korea has test-fired the Hwasong-8 hypersonic weapon displayed during the April 25 military parade.

North Korea demonstrated a hypersonic ballistic missile in a biconus configuration and a hypersonic ballistic missile in a wave-riding body configuration at the April 25 military parade, and it is currently impossible to tell which hypersonic weapon it is by configuration, because both configurations have the potential to fly up to Mach 11.

Joint Senate Speaker Won In-chol shared the situation with Lacamela, commander of the ROK-US Joint Command, through videoconference immediately after the DPRK's test firing, to confirm that the ROK and the United States maintain a solid joint defense posture.

The Joint Counselors said that the DPRK's successive test firings of ballistic missiles pose a serious threat to peace and stability on the ROK Peninsula and even the international community, which clearly violates the resolutions of the UN Security Council, and strongly urges the DPRK to immediately stop launch activities.

The Joint Staff also said that the South Korean military is closely monitoring the DPRK's movements and maintaining a high degree of vigilance in response to the possibility of North Korea launching missiles again.

Earlier in the day, South Korea made public the north's launch of the UFO in a text message sent to the media, but did not disclose more specific information. According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean military is analyzing the relevant parameters such as the range and altitude of the launcher.

According to a report by Kyodo News Agency earlier on the 4th, the Japanese Ministry of Defense reported on the 4th that the maximum flight altitude of North Korea's ballistic missiles was about 800 kilometers, and the flight distance was about 500 kilometers.

Earlier, North Korea held a military parade on the evening of April 25 at Kim Il Sung Square in the capital Pyongyang to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army. The Korean People's Army displayed a variety of new weapons during the parade, including the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile, the Martian Gun-17 ballistic missile, and two vehicle-mounted hypersonic wave-riding body weapons.
