Co-sponsored by the National Art Museum of China, the Propaganda Department of the Cpc Suzhou Municipal Committee and the Kunshan Municipal People's Government, the "Seeing the Great Righteousness – Yang Mingyi Art and Documenta Exhibition" was launched at the National Art Museum of China on April 17, 2022. Yang Mingyi, a native of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, a member of the China Artists Association and a national first-class artist, has attracted the attention of the painting world with his bright and fresh style of Jiangnan charm, and is called "an innovative Chinese painter" by Wu Guanzhong and "a person who found a golden deer in the forest".
The exhibition is divided into three chapters: art tourism ink painting, art world communication and artistic life, which comprehensively shows the art and character of painter Yang Mingyi in his artistic life.
The chapter of "Art Travel Ink Painting" is divided into four themes: exotic scenery, home in Jiangnan, water town rhyme, and garden lotus language: there are Jiangnan water town works with the theme of the change of seasons and River boat style, there are unique scenery with exotic scenery reflecting homesickness, and there are also qu and idyllic gardens and lotus landscapes, showing the changes of Gusu from the ancient city to today, hooking out Yang Mingyi's artistic creation road.
"Zhou Zhuang Group Painting" series
The chapter "Art Circle" focuses on The literature of Yang Mingyi's contacts with famous people in the art world since the 1960s, including four themes: witnessing classics, recent building collections, statues of teachers and friends, and acts of great righteousness, including many classic works and creative pasts of famous artists. "Acts of Great Righteousness" is the highlight of this chapter, and the works donated by Yang Mingyi and graphic materials are selected for display. In particular, he donated a work by Zao Wou-Ki, Shen Congwen and Wang Jiqian to the National Art Museum of China free of charge, and the story behind the work, which is worth reading. The donated works fill the gap in the collection of the Three Artists at the National Art Museum of China.

In addition, the "Artistic Life" chapter also shows the original documents such as photos, letters, works, and collections of Yang Mingyi's artistic career, echoing the artist's chronology.

Wu Weishan, director of the National Art Museum of China, believes that Yang Mingyi was once immersed in the context of Western modern culture and sought the "cosmopolitanness" of formal language. After returning to China, he once again expressed the new image of the times in Gusu Water Town, in which he practiced his new methods and new concepts of artistic creation, and used a rich and runny artistic language to indulge in the voice of the wanderer.
The exhibition is presented in Halls 1, 8 and 9 on the first floor of the National Art Museum of China until April 27.
About the artist
Yang Mingyi is a member of the China Artists Association and a national first-class artist. Born in 1943 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, he studied at Suzhou Arts and Crafts College, Central Academy of Fine Arts, and graduated from the New York Youth Art League. It has created a new modern situation of Wumen painting and created a new asana of ink painting, whose significance has far exceeded the Jiangnan scenery itself, and has the important attribute of retaining nostalgia and inheriting humanities, and has been praised by critics as "the first person to discover Zhouzhuang". His works have been collected by world-renowned museums, and he has won the 5th Global Chinese Art Salary Award, the French Salon Special Independent Artist Award, the Silver Medal of the Asia-Pacific Art Exhibition in the United States, the Highest Artistic Achievement Award awarded by the National Gallery of Art of Belarus, the trophy of the Artistic Contribution Award, and in 2020, he was awarded the Medal of The Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award of the Academy of Arts in Paris.
