Earlier, on April 2, according to a local court in Sheffield, Liang Wenbo was fined £1,380 plus 96 hours of community service in 12 months for assaulting women on the street. As soon as this news was disclosed, it caused an uproar. Liang Wenbo immediately revealed his remorse through the media and apologized.
According to Liang Wenbo's own description, the women who hit the street were his friends, because some things got into a verbal altercation, which then escalated into a physical conflict. He also regretted it afterwards and reached a reconciliation with the woman. However, Liang Wenbo's attitude of admitting his mistake did not let him escape punishment.
The International Taiwan Federation then announced that because Liang Wenbo's practice violated the contract terms of the snooker athletes and the international Taiwan Federation and humiliated the sport, Liang Wenbo's qualification for the Snooker World Tour was suspended, which was tantamount to announcing that Liang Wenbo was not qualified for the World Championships. Local lawmakers even said Mr. Leung's approach was outrageous. Since then, the Chinese Taiwan Association has also introduced punitive measures to stop Liang Wenbo from participating in domestic billiards competitions and suspend his position as deputy director of the Professional Players Committee in the UK.
