Although the mainland's 5G network construction is far from enough, but from the existing scale, it has steadily stood in the world's first position, the latest report of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that as of the end of February this year, the total number of 5G base stations in the mainland has reached 1.506 million.
From the perspective of coverage, 5G base stations have now covered all cities and municipalities above the prefecture level in China, more than 98% of counties and districts, more than 80% of townships and towns, and built the world's largest and most technologically advanced 5G independent networking network.
With the formation of 5G base stations on a large scale, coupled with the growing sales penetration rate of 5G smartphone terminals, the number of 5G package users in the mainland has become more and more numerous, which has also allowed the three major operators to earn huge profits.
A few days ago, the three major operators have released their 2021 annual reports, the first is China Mobile, with annual revenue of RMB 848.3 billion, an increase of 10.4% year-on-year, of which communication service revenue was RMB751.4 billion, an increase of 8.0% year-on-year.
According to the number of customers released by China Mobile, the total number of customers was 957 million, of which the number of 5G package customers reached 387 million, and the increase in 5G users also increased the average revenue per user by 3% year-on-year to 48.8 yuan.
The growth of 5G package customers has enabled China Mobile to achieve growth in communication service revenue, while profits have also grown considerably, and China Mobile earned a net profit of RMB 116.1 billion in 2021, an increase of 7.7% year-on-year.
This means that The average daily net profit of China Mobile is as high as 318 million yuan, which is a profit that many listed companies cannot earn in a year.
More critically, China Mobile's net profit is nearly three times that of China Telecom and China Unicom combined, after both operators published their annual reports.
Specifically, China Telecom has 372 million subscribers and a 5G package user penetration rate of more than 50%, which means that there are about 190 million 5G package users, with total revenue of 434.1 billion yuan and net profit of 25.9 billion yuan.
China Unicom's 5G package users were 155 million, with a penetration rate of 48.9%, total corporate revenue of RMB327.9 billion and net profit attributable to common stock of RMB14.4 billion.
From this data, it can be seen that the sum of the net profits of China Telecom and China Unicom is only 40.3 billion, about one-third of China Mobile's net profit, which can be seen that China Telecom and China Unicom are indeed not opponents of China Mobile.
This is also a wave of dividends harvested by China Mobile under the continuous popularization of 5G, but it should be noted that the 5G coverage situation in the mainland is actually not as good as described by operators.
The first is that the number of 5G base stations is still far from enough, accounting for only 15% of the total number of mobile base stations, if you want to make the 5G coverage reach the height of 4G, you need to continue to increase investment, the scale of 5G base stations to several times.
Secondly, among the 5G package users, a large number of users do not use the 5G network, on the one hand, it is far from enough with the 5G base stations mentioned earlier, and on the other hand, the number of users who use 5G mobile phones is far less than the number of 5G package users announced by the three major operators.
The sum of the 5G package users announced by the three major operators exceeded 720 million, and the latest data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed that as of the end of February this year, the total number of mobile phone users reached 1.651 billion, and the number of 5G mobile phone users was only 384 million, accounting for only 23.3% of the total number of users.
It can be seen that the number of users who really use 5G networks only accounts for about half of the total number of 5G package users, and nearly half of the users have not changed to 5G mobile phones, and some of the users who have used 5G packages and 5G mobile phones may be in rural or remote areas, and there is no 5G network available at all.
