Good evening to all book lovers, welcome to the reading column "Encounter" produced by Fan Deng Reading.

Today, I would like to interpret the masterpiece of children's literature that influenced the 20th century - "The Little Bean by the Window".

Japanese writer Tetsuko Kuroyanagi told the world with her own accomplished life:

The so-called "problem children" and "genius children" may be the difference between a thought.

There's a lot to think about love, about education.

Can you imagine that in school, children are free to choose their seats and choose which class to take first according to their preferences?

There is a primary school on it.

Here, in order to stimulate children's interest and enthusiasm for learning, they can decide the order of learning of each subject according to their own preferences.

So, you can see the children in the front row writing, the children in the back row lighting alcohol lamps and doing experiments, while the children on the other side doing arithmetic problems.

The teacher will also come to the child's seat and answer their questions until they understand.

For subjects that children do not like so much, they only need to be completed before school, and if the children can complete the day's learning tasks in the morning, they can also get "rewards".

The teacher will take everyone out for a walk, relax while playing, and bring a "nature lesson" by the way.

Such a forward-looking, open education is not a fairy tale, but really existed in Japan more than 80 years ago.

This school is the famous Ba Gakuen in Japan, and it is also the "fairy tale school" in the dreams of countless children.

Ba Gakuen was founded in 1937 by Kobayashi Sosaku as a primary school that practices a consistent education for young children.

Tetsuko Kuroyanagi is a star student of Ba Gakuen, who tells the story of Ba Gakuen to the world and heals every child who has not been treated well in childhood.

After watching Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's growth experience in Ba Gakuen, it is not difficult to find out what an ordinary child's counterattack depends on.

Accepting the imperfections of children is a hurdle that parents have to overcome

Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's nickname is Xiao Doudou, who is as lively and cute as her name, but she makes the teacher feel a headache.

She can't adapt to the rules of the school, can't fit into the collective classroom learning atmosphere, and has various "abnormal behaviors":

Repeatedly playing with the desk lid during class, switching back and forth hundreds of times;

The teacher is lecturing in class, but she sticks her head out of the window and chats with the touring artists who pass by;

It may not be strange to talk to people, but she will also look up and chat with the swallows in the tree.

The teacher on the podium could not pretend that he could not see the mischievous mischief of the little beanie.

The key is that she also "repeatedly taught", which not only brought a lot of trouble, disrupted the order of the classroom, and affected the learning of classmates, but also was complained by many teachers.

Therefore, Xiao Doudou, who was only in the first grade, was dropped out of school.

When her mother learned about it, she did not reprimand and punish Xiao Doudou.

She knows that Xiao Doudou is active and curious, not a well-behaved child in the eyes of ordinary people, but also not a "hopelessly" bad child.

In order not to make Xiao Doudou feel inferior, her mother hid from her that she had been expelled from school.

The mother understands that the growth of Xiaodoudou needs to take more time than other children, so she found a school for Xiaodoudou that can allow children to grow up at their own pace - Ba Gakuen.

Perhaps, every parent once had a perfect child in his heart: obedient and sensible, well-behaved and carefree.

But there were never two identical leaves in the world, even if the dragon gave birth to nine sons, they were all different.

Some children are introverted, some children are lively and active, they carry their own unique personality, and constantly sharpen on the road to growth.

If parents take a pair of eyes, see the child's sparkling starlight, explore the child's talent and interest, be the child's leader, and find a path suitable for the child's growth.

One day, children can also have their own sea of stars.

Accepting children's imperfections is not only a reconciliation with their own expectations, but also a barrier that parents have to overcome.

Good education is to squat

Children who come to Ba Gakuen are required to go through an interview with Principal Kobayashi.

Principal Kobayashi is a middle-aged man with thinning hair and a few teeth missing.

Principal Kobayashi's interview topic for Xiao Doudou was: "Talk to me, you can say anything."

The uninhibited little beanie began to idle:

"The old school had a swallow nest", "There was a dog named Loki at home", "Funny things about playing with snot yourself"...

Principal Kobayashi squatted down and communicated with Xiao Doudou as a friend, laughing as he listened, and asked, "What happened later?" ”

Little Beanie gushed endlessly, immersed in his own sharing.

In this way, she spoke for 4 hours.

During this time, Principal Kobayashi never interrupted, did not yawn, and did not show any impatience.

No one had ever listened to The Little Bean so patiently and carefully.

These 4 hours of good times became the warmest healing of Xiao Doudou's childhood.

She believes that she is good, worthy of being loved, and worthy of serious treatment.

Xiao Doudou has since met a teacher who is willing to crouch down and talk to her.

One day, Xiao Doudou went to the toilet and accidentally dropped his beloved wallet into the pit.

Instead of crying or giving up, she ran to the tool room and took a long spoon to the toilet.

The feces had accumulated into a hill, and Principal Kobayashi happened to pass by and leaned over to her and asked her what she was doing.

Xiao Doudou answered truthfully, and Principal Kobayashi just said, "After you find it, get these things back to where they were."

If you change to other parents, in the face of Xiao Doudou's move, I am afraid it is difficult not to be angry.

But Principal Kobayashi saw Xiao Doudou's needs and recognized her spirit of not giving up. At the same time, we also did not forget to educate her on "returning things to their original positions".

What is a good education?

It's about squatting down and seeing the needs of the child.

Give back your freedom and independence to your child, understand that your child uses an immature brain, and makes childish, troublesome moves.

Let children use their own strength to make independent choices, free exploration, and self-solution.

The American thinker Emerson said:

"Respect your children and don't treat them too much as parents."

A parent who stands and educates his child has difficulty empathizing with his or her child.

They are accustomed to using adult cognition and perspective to interpret children's behavior.

When children make mistakes and cause trouble, adults fall in a condescending posture, which will only make children feel stressed and their self-esteem will be hurt.

Education at this time is counterproductive.

If adults are willing to squat down and see the tension and sadness in the child's eyes, the child feels respect and equality, and the emotion of resistance will be eased.

Such communication will be smooth, and such education will be more efficient.

Experiential learning is better than ten thousand preaching

In Ba Gakuen, two large trees are the school gates, and the classrooms are abandoned trams.

Principal Kobayashi encourages the children to complete tasks independently and gain knowledge through hands-on experience.

In order for the children to learn to grow crops, Principal Kobayashi brought in a real farmer uncle.

The children took hoes and began to weed, learning to plant, spread, fertilize and learn about the meteorological knowledge of the crops.

The children passed by the blooming rape fields, looked at the colorful butterflies, and the teacher talked about the knowledge of butterfly pollination, pistils and stamens.

In order to keep the children from being picky eaters, Principal Kobayashi asked them to bring "the smell of the mountains and the taste of the sea" bento every day at noon.

The taste of the mountain is mainly some vegetables that grow on land, of course, including cattle, pigs, chickens and so on living on land.

The taste of the sea refers to the fish and some seafood from the sea.

Using "mountain" and "sea" to distinguish food not only allows children to understand nutritional collocation, but also makes children understand that food is a gift from the mountains and the sea.

At Ba Gakuen, this kind of experience teaching activities are very rich.

Children are never taught to maintain school hygiene, to walk in line, to go to class quietly, and not to bully the weak.

But as early as daily learning, these correct concepts have been deeply rooted in the hearts of children.

Principal Kobayashi believes:

"Every child has good qualities, and they should be raised to be individuals as soon as possible."

In order to let some "defective" children find self-worth, he will specially design activities to make them feel respected, cared for and affirmed.

Design swimming lessons so that physically handicapped children dare to face themselves and get rid of their inferiority complex.

Holding the "Short Man" Sports Day, let the child who will not grow tall again win the first place, I hope that he will remember this moment of confidence in the future.

Montessori, in his book The Secrets of Childhood, states:

"Physical activity is an important factor influencing intellectual development, because intellectual development requires the acquisition of knowledge and experience from the external environment through various physical activities."

At Ba Gakuen, children do everything by themselves and help each other.

There is no preaching, but to lead children into the experiential learning that is closest to life, and to understand the usefulness and meaning of knowledge in various practical activities.

Not only did the children gain a lot of knowledge invisibly, but also gained the belief that "I can do it".

This rich spiritual wealth will accompany them through the wilderness, survive the cold winter, and face life more positively and confidently.

Write at the end

Tetsuko Kuroyanagi said:

If I hadn't gone to Ba Gakuen, I wouldn't be where I am today.

When she was a child, she was an ordinary, not even so good child.

However, in her uneven life, she became a well-known Writer in Japan, and her "Little Bean by the Window" was loved by countless parents and teachers.

Not only has it become one of the best-selling books in Japanese history, but it has also been selected as a recommended extracurricular book for mainland elementary school students.

Her parents accepted her as she was, tolerated and cared for her enough, let her grow up according to her own character, and protected her curiosity about the world.

One of the things her teachers said to her the most was, "You're such a good kid."

Xiao Doudou, who once couldn't sit still in class, came to Ba Gakuen but looked forward to going to school every day.

Principal Kobayashi said:

"The most terrible thing in the world is that you have eyes but you can't find beauty, you have ears but you can't appreciate music, and you have a heart but can't understand what is true."

It won't be touching, it won't be passionate. ”

Truly intelligent parents know how to see their children, appreciate their children, harvest and move in every companionship, and be passionate in every learning.

Click "Watching", I hope that every parent and teacher can find the "little beanie" around them.
