Robots in movies? Japanese beauty robot Erica will star in the sci-fi film

Oscar-nominated Bondit Capital Media for "Beloved Van Gogh" and "Skinny," Belgium's Happy Moon Productions and New York's Ten Global Media have pledged to support the $70 million sci-fi film, which producers say will be the first to rely on AI actors.

Written by Eric Pham, Tarek Zohdy, and Sam Khoze, b tells the story of a scientist who discovers that a project he created to perfect human DNA is in crisis, and he sets out to help the artificially intelligent woman (Erica) he designed to escape.

The image of "Erica" is set as a 23-year-old woman with a "beautiful face" synthesized by a computer. The sound of the speech is re-synthesized based on the voice actor's recording, very much like a human voice. The eyes, mouth, and neck can be moved by air pressure in 19 places, showing various expressions. Made by Japanese scientist Hiroshi Ishiguro and Kohei Ogawa, and taught its performances and methodological interpretations, as part of their robotics research project.

Khoze, the film's writer and producer, said: "In other performances, actors will incorporate their own life experiences into the role. But Erica can't, she's playing the role from scratch. We had to have her simulate emotions and movements through one-on-one conversations, such as controlling the speed of her movements, talking through her feelings, and guiding character development and body language.

Erica was originally scheduled to debut in another film directed by Tony Kay (director of The X-Files), but was unable to do so due to scheduling conflicts.

The director and human cast for "b" have not yet been selected, but the producers have already filmed some of Erica's scenes in Japan last year, and the rest of the filming is expected to begin in Europe next June.
