What does the Bauhaus have to do with the growth of Chinese designers?

What is the "Bauhaus"? In China, it is probably only known in the circle of designers that its name refers to the Bauhaus Academy in Weimar, Germany in the 20th century. Why is it so famous? The Bauhaus may have influenced designers around the world in the 20th century, and even the present, in a sense, and its influence was so wide and deep that many people could not believe it.

I came into contact with "Bauhaus" because I read the "History of Modern Design in the World" written by Wang Shouzhi, which introduced the history of the Bauhaus and related characters in detail, and also systematically introduced how the Bauhaus influenced the world's modern design style.

The Bauhaus represents a kind of change of thought, before it, all industrial-related design is more focused on cumbersome decoration, and the Bauhaus created another brand new world, "less is more" composition of the idea, led the whole world design trend, and is still influencing the contemporary.

What does the Bauhaus have to do with the growth of Chinese designers?

I was struck by the fact that the Bauhaus advocated the combination of art and technology, the equal emphasis on craftsmanship and art, and the alliance of creation and manufacturing more than 100 years ago. Such a forward-looking design idea program is very valuable for our current designers.

We are now studying design, that is, in the ivory tower of the university, we have learned a lot of design theory, a lot of design knowledge, but we just can't learn the ability to design. Now many designers who have graduated from college have too weak hands-on practical ability, and they can't do things at all in the enterprise, which is why many students who study design have finally changed careers.

In the future, creative and innovative designers with strong hands-on ability will become more and more valuable, China is currently doing industrial upgrading, China can not always work for others, always do the bottom of the manufacturing process with the least money. We must create more new products and new brands, which need to be realized with the help of innovative designers with creative thinking.

In the teaching of more than 100 years ago, the Bauhaus has paid equal attention to the school design curriculum and the factory practice, that is, to complete the design course in the school in the morning and go to the factory in the afternoon to make the design work by himself. It's like designing VI (corporate visual identity system) that we're learning in school right now, designing a VI system directly for a company in the afternoon. Only in this way will students have the enthusiasm to do it, and can they land the design and form their own design ability. What we college students lack most now is design ability, rather than learning a lot of design knowledge.

What does the Bauhaus have to do with the growth of Chinese designers?

Design ability is the need to constantly practice, practice and practice to have, we are now in the university to study design students, may be a semester to procrastinate to complete one or two design assignments, which is completely out of the atmosphere of commercial competition, in the fierce business competition, there is no time to give you procrastination, and there is no time to see your unrealistic ideas. What is needed is that you can complete the most basic design work and also have the ability to execute very efficiently.

So, how can our current designers learn the essence of Bauhaus's design ideas and quickly improve our own design capabilities?

I think if you do both of these things well during college, maybe when you graduate, a good job will automatically find you.

First of all, the first point is to try to practice as much as you can, and doing more is the only way to improve your ability to do it yourself. At the beginning, if you are still in your freshman year, your design ability is not good, you can do some auxiliary and extensible design, such as a theme screen design, you can do more extension of related promotional materials. This is conducive to familiarizing yourself with the design software, and it is also conducive to slowly understanding the design. If you try to find some part-time jobs when you are a sophomore and junior, even if you don't pay a salary, you have to go to an internship, which is actually a more effective learning opportunity. Direct contact with business needs, direct communication with experienced designers, these are things that you can't learn and can't teach, and you need to take the initiative to find them yourself.

Second, the second point is to broaden your horizons. Design must first see you to get to hand, if you do not even understand the latest design style, do not know what design is currently popular, the future employment needs to hold those design qualities are not clear, then, you will participate in the future when you participate in the work of the possibility of running into a wall everywhere will be very large.

Go to see more cutting-edge design websites, more importantly, participate in some international or domestic top design competitions, in the process of participating in the competition, their vision and design ability will be more obviously improved. Because you may be in contact with the top international or domestic designer judges, they will also bring us young designers more inspiration and broad horizons.

The Bauhaus's design ideas have been going on for more than 100 years, so why can its design ideas guide our designs now and even in the future? I think it is its innovative spirit, its advocacy of learning while practicing the ideological program, these most fundamental things are the "Tao" of design, only by following the "Tao" to act, each of our young students will become excellent designers in the future.
