On February 11, the International Doping Agency (ITA) issued an official statement informing the Russian Olympic Committee of the incident in which figure skater Vallieva tested positive for doping.

"Trimetazide, which is generally clinically suitable for the treatment of patients with myocardial ischemia, is that the mechanism of this drug is to improve the efficiency of the patient's energy metabolism, and the drug has not been included in the stimulant list before." On the afternoon of February 11, Xu Zhimin, deputy chief physician of the Department of Cardiology of Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, told the Health Times reporter that because all the heart energy and muscle energy during exercise come from their own biological energy, no matter what the sport, trimetazidine can indeed improve the efficiency of some exercises, but not much.

On February 7, the Beijing Winter Olympics ended the competition for figure skating team competition, the Russian Olympic Committee team won the gold medal, 15-year-old Vallieva became the first female athlete in history to complete the four-week jump in the Winter Olympics in the final competition of the day. However, the award ceremony for the figure skating team competition, which was supposed to take place on February 8, was postponed.

It is understood that trimetazidine was included in the World Anti-Doping Agency's "Banned List" in January 2014 and belongs to the specific substances banned in the race. The so-called specific substances are substances marked in the "Prohibited List" that are easy to be mistakenly taken and misused, which are common in medicines or are not abused as stimulants. However, the use of large doses can also play a role in improving athletic performance, and there is a possibility of abuse.

On November 24, 2014, the China Anti-Doping Center announced a news that shocked the sports world. According to sources, Chinese swimming star Sun Yang was inspected in the game during the national swimming championships on May 17, and the result was that the illegal substance was also trimetazidine found in the A bottle urine sample.

According to the above-mentioned ITA statement, the test was carried out entirely by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, and the decision to temporarily suspend the tournament was also made by it, and is not under the jurisdiction of the ITA. According to the IOC's anti-doping regulations, the sanction applies to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and the athlete should be barred from participating in all competitions and activities of the Winter Olympics. ITA immediately informed the athletes themselves. Vallieva appealed to the RUSADA Disciplinary Committee on February 9. After a hearing, the ban was lifted that night. Vallieva was allowed to compete at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

With the Winter Olympics figure skating women's singles tournament set to start on Feb. 15, the ITA said the IOC had decided not to wait for RUSADA's detailed explanation and would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport with a view to getting the outcome by the 15th. Specific procedures are carried out on the behalf of the ITA. As for the Figure Skating Team Championships at the Beijing Winter Olympics won by the Russian Olympic Committee team, it will be disposed of by the International Skating Federation after all legal procedures are completed.
