Zhang Tingyu was a model for Qing courtiers, who was favored by Yongzheng and deserved to enjoy the Taimiao Temple, but it was such an official "tumbler" who was repeatedly frustrated during the Qianlong period.
Qianlong first criticized Empress Fucha's tribute and punished Zhang Tingyu for a year; then, he made a big fuss about Zhang Tingyu's retirement and tried everything to make things difficult for him.
It is reasonable to say that Zhang Tingyu was the elder of the Three Dynasties and was well versed in the way of being an official, so why did he "plant his head" when he arrived in the Qianlong Dynasty?
First, Zhang Tingyu is old, and the use value is not as good as before
When Qianlong had just succeeded to the throne, he still relied heavily on Zhang Tingyu, not only because he was a minister of orders, but more importantly, Zhang Tingyu had rich experience in handling government affairs. If the Qing Empire is a machine, that Zhang Tingyu is the instruction manual of this machine, and Qianlong cannot operate the machine without Zhang Tingyu.
However, after becoming emperor for several years, Qianlong became more and more familiar with government affairs, and the use of imperial heart techniques gradually became handy, and the importance of Zhang Tingyu was not as good as before. In 1746, Qianlong also issued an edict:
"University scholar Zhang Tingyu served officials for decades. This year is more than ancient, and every morning is too late to go to Que, it is inevitable to be overworked, and the heart is longing. There is no need to enter the DYNASTY early thereafter. ”
On the surface, it is sympathetic to him, but in fact it is marginalizing him.
Zhang Tingyu was too old, and his memory and energy were not as good as before, Qianlong noticed this problem and began to deliberately promote young and powerful people. At this time, Zhang Tingyu, like the company's old employees, once there is no use value, it will be eliminated by the company.
Second, Qianlong was too shrewd
Qianlong's personality is very different from Yongzheng's. Yongzheng is harsh and harsh on the surface, but there is another side, that is, a special rectum, once the other party is reliable, it will be good to people. He gave Zhu Batch to many favored subjects, just like chatting with his own brothers, such as Zhu Batch for Tian Wenjing:
"That's what he is!" That's what it is! That's the emperor! If er and other ministers do not live up to their promises, they will not fail to live up to er and wait! ”
Such a frank and true temperament of Zhu Pi, except for Yongzheng, other emperors could not write at all.
Yongzheng appreciates Zhang Tingyu, in addition to his talent, that is, the two of them are particularly complementary. Yongzheng was impatient, while Zhang Tingyu was meticulous and patient. When making friends, you often appreciate the characteristics that you don't have. Therefore, Yongzheng and Zhang Tingyu got along very well, and gave Zhang Tingyu a Tianzi endorsement in his will.
Qianlong's impression of Zhang Tingyu was not as good as Yongzheng's. People and people, similar personalities, may be mutually exclusive, shrewd people will often reject shrewd people.
Qianlong, like Zhang Tingyu, is particularly shrewd, sleek and sophisticated, so Qianlong can see at a glance the scheming behind Zhang Tingyu. On the surface, the Grand Duke is selfless and dedicated to the monarch, but in fact he fights for himself without controversy.
Zhang Tingyu has done a lot of things for the family, and he has done it without leaking, and ordinary people can't see it, but Qianlong can see it. Zhang Tingyu's two younger brothers and two sons are all senior executives of the Qing Dynasty, and the family wears high-grade official uniforms, which makes the people of the world envious. Therefore, Qianlong believed that Zhang Tingyu was a very city-oriented person and needed to be wary.
Third, the need to crack down on the partisans
At the beginning of Qianlong's reign, the imperial court had the problem of a partisan party headed by Ortai and Zhang Tingyu. Ertai and Zhang Tingyu were Yongzheng's favorite ministers, both university scholars and military ministers, with equal status, but the relationship between the two was long-term discordant. Manchu ministers generally defected to Ortai's men, and Han ministers were only led by Zhang Tingyu.
Zhang Tingyu's protégés were all over the government and the public, and even Qianlong had Zhang Tingyu's students around him, which put a lot of pressure on Tianzi.
To solve the problem of the partisans, it is necessary to eliminate the leaders of the partisans, which is the so-called capture of the thief before the king. Later, Ortai died, so Qianlong's spearhead was aimed at Zhang Tingyu, who was the leader of Han Chen.
Zhang Tingyu was cautious in the official field for a lifetime, and in the end he could not escape the fate of his companions like companions.
