Liu Bang originally had no intention of receiving him, and even when Li Yiqi entered the house, he was still washing his feet, and he had no intention of respecting him at all. Li Shiqi immediately expressed dissatisfaction. Liu Bang immediately changed his attitude and saluted him. During the conversation, Liu Bang discovered that Li Shiqi was indeed a talent, and his attitude towards Confucianism gradually improved.
More importantly, Liu Bang was not only good at firmly tying his own people, but also recruiting talents from the enemy camp. Moreover, these people from the enemy camp could also be dead set on Liu Bang.
For example, the later Han Chancellor Chen Ping. Chen Ping had a bad deed before defecting to Liu Bang, and in addition to serving multiple masters in the past, there was also the crime of "stealing his sister-in-law". At that time, many of Liu Bang's subordinates advised Liu Bang not to use him.
Liu Bang was also a little suspicious of him, so he summoned him and asked, "You were originally under the account of king Wei, and then you switched to Xiang Yumen, and now you have come to help me, why is this?" ”
Of course, Chen Ping knew that Liu Bang was quite dissatisfied with his resume, so he replied: "Neither King Wei nor Xiang Yu is good at using people, so I abandoned them, and I heard that you knew that the great name of people and good appointments came to defect." If the king doesn't trust me, then I can hand over all my belongings and return to my hometown. ”
Chen Ping's remarks seemed to justify himself, but they brought together the political advantages and disadvantages of the various princes at that time. Liu Bang suddenly felt that the person in front of him was a talent, so he put aside his doubts and appointed him as his attendant. Since then, Chen Ping has offered many plans, including encircling and suppressing Xiang Yu and arresting Han Xin. Moreover, in the later Lü Rebellion, Chen Ping also made great contributions.
The same goes for Han Xin. Han Xin was also a general under Xiang Yu's account, but his many offers were ignored by Xiang Yu, so he defected to Liu Bang's account. At first, Liu Bang did not approve of him, and only let him be a grain transporter, but Liu Bang was able to make him the main general of the three armies only with Xiao He's guarantee.
In fact, judging from Liu Bang's strength at that time, such an act was tantamount to gambling, but it would undoubtedly give Han Xin enough trust to envelop him around him. And later facts also proved that Liu Bang gambled correctly.
