The Treasure House of Witty Sayings (Excerpt)

1

Sit next to the adult and courageous women and listen to them

Talk about love stories, teach all kinds of love tips,

However, when you meet a loved one, with a longing in your heart,

But did not dare to go closer, this is precisely the charm of the girl.

2

Beauty, roll your eyes and let the blue lotus fade,

Show off your gorgeous lips and turn red coral white,

Reveal your body slightly, let the gold fade,

Lift your face and let there be two moons in the air.

3

The cat reached out and licked the moonlight from the plate, thinking it was milk,

The elephant rolled up the moonlight from the gap in the tree, thinking it was a lotus root,

After the woman rejoiced, she grabbed the moonlight on the bed, thinking it was a silk coat,

Ah, the moonlight was proud of its own light confusing the world.

4

Darkness seems to be in your hands,

The earth seems to be able to pass unimpeded,

The four sides seem to be close to their own body,

The sky seemed to be on his forehead.

5

Did not accumulate any wealth,

Did not practice any asceticism,

Without any knowledge,

Life has come to an end.

6

When will I be able to live such a good life?

Sit on the top of a snowy mountain on the banks of the Ganges,

Enter yoga meditation and meditate continuously on Brahma,

The deer dared to rub my body with its horns for pleasure.

7

Shiva sat cross-legged with a snake wrapped around her knees,

Meditate, hold your breath, stop the senses,

See the silent self in the self with real eyes,

Immerse yourself in the momentary emptiness of Brahma.

Meeting a loved one but not daring to come closer is precisely the charm of a young girl

A while ago, I looked at the exhibition of Iranian miniature paintings, saw some exhibits related to Persian poetry, searched for relevant poets and works, and found that there was a set of "Chinese Translation persian classic library" in China, looked at the price, and was not willing to buy...

The so-called "lost east corner, harvested mulberry elm", when searching, found another set of equally "exotic" books - "Sanskrit Literature Translation Series", the price is much cheaper, so I made up a set to buy all of them.

The above are first selected from the Treasure House of Witty Words. This collection of Sanskrit lyric poems was compiled by Vidia Garo around the 11th-12th centuries and contains more than 1,700 poems. The translator explains the importance of this selected poem in the preface: "The ancient Indian writing materials are mainly bay leaves (i.e., palm leaves), which are not suitable for long-term preservation, so in addition to the works of famous poets, a large number of poetic works have been lost in the long river of history, and it is precisely by relying on this collection of poems that some excellent short poems that were generally appreciated by readers at that time were preserved... In a sense, this collection of poems can also be said to show the overall achievement of classical Sanskrit lyric poetry. ”

Flipping through this selected poem has a similar feeling as turning over the "Manyo Collection" and the "Ancient and Modern Waka Collection". Many poems are expressed in old, or traditional, classic types of rhetoric that are popular throughout human culture, such as jade-like faces, bright moon-like eyes, lips sweeter than honey... In addition to these, there are always surprises to read, and some short poems still feel fresh and cute even now.

Reading a good poem from ancient times, you often don't have to think hard, as long as you read it, the taste will come out. For the above songs, I can't say anything, but I think it's very good and want to share it with more people.
