Not long ago, the police of the Huajiadi Police Station of the Chaoyang Public Security Bureau of Beijing carried out a loving visit in the jurisdiction. When the policeman Guo Zhehao walked into the house of resident Uncle Wang, the old man happened to have something to ask for help. Uncle Wang said that a few days ago, a staff member of a broadband company went to his home to repair the broadband network, and after that, the landline phone at home could not be used.
After careful inspection, a black "set-top box" style device at the terminal of Uncle Wang's telephone line aroused Guo Zhehao's vigilance, and this box was the "culprit" that interfered with the fixed-line signal.
Not only that, this black box Guo Zhehao had seen before when he was handling the case, and it was a voice gateway device called VOIP. This device can realize the conversion of overseas network signals into fixed-line signals in the city, and the power connection can automatically enter the continuous working state, and because it is installed in residents' homes, it is very hidden.
In the case of households where VOIP devices are installed, the network cable will be quietly used by wire fraud gangs to engage in fraudulent activities.
How does VOIP "assist scams"?
As we all know, overseas calls starting with "+" or "00" have a high risk factor of fraud, and many people are vigilant or set up overseas phone harassment interception.
But after the criminals add a sharp weapon, they will turn the number into a domestic one, causing many people to be deceived, this thing is called "VOIP".
VOIP uses fixed telephone lines to access the telephone network, and the caller ID is the landline number. Fraudsters in foreign countries make remote dialing, and after the conversion of VOIP equipment, the caller ID on the victim's mobile phone is the domestic fixed-line number, which greatly reduces the victim's defensive psychology. Its social harm can be described as very great.
Most of the victims are the elderly
The police judged that the staff of the broadband company that provided door-to-door service must be fake, and he must be caught! With the help of the property personnel in the community, the police quickly obtained the physical characteristics of the suspect man. The next day, when the suspect reappeared in the jurisdiction and was about to come to the door for "network maintenance", he was caught red-handed by the police.
According to the suspect's confession, he saw a job posting on the Internet and applied for a job as an "equipment installer". The "boss" contacted him via online video and WeChat, distributed badges and tooling that pretended to be the staff of the broadband company, and mailed him VOIP equipment by courier. It is reported that other members of the gang will pretend to be the customer service of a broadband company to make random phone calls and make appointments for door-to-door services on the grounds of increasing bandwidth for free or carrying out signal maintenance. After the appointment was successful, the suspect was contacted, informed of the installation location, and instructed him to come to the door for installation.
In a month, the suspect installed dozens of VOIP equipment in accordance with the instructions of the "boss", making a profit of nearly 10,000 yuan, and most of the victims were elderly. Now the person has been criminally detained by the Chaoyang police in accordance with the law, and the case is under further work.

If you receive a call from a broadband customer service staff or a staff member knocks directly on the door to provide free services on the grounds of signal maintenance, network speed upgrade, etc., please call the official customer service number for business verification as soon as possible. If a suspicious "black box" is installed in your home, please call the police for help as soon as possible.
