Three craniotomy in eight years, this "non-human" who passed by with death has never stood on the CBA court as a player. But now, suffering from semi-paralysis and facial paralysis, he has become a man who has moved the CBA arena.

This man's name is Wu Zhonghua, a 28-year-old boy who used to love basketball, from Anshan, Liaoning, 1.90 meters tall, graduated from Beijing Sport University.

Once, he ran 3.45 meters tall and was a chaser playing on the basket. Bryant and Olajuwon instructional videos, he can watch the day mesmerized, a step outside the three-point line is his range. But after three craniotomy surgeries, he did not set foot on the court for a long time, and an inexplicable sense of loss wrapped him. Compared with the flourishing and sunny confidence of his college days, Wu Zhonghua in childhood is simply a world of difference.

He comes from a poor mountain village in Xiuyan, Anshan, Liaoning Province, and his parents have been working outside the home for as long as he can remember, and he grew up with his grandfather as a child. The kind two elderly people make a living by picking up garbage, and as left-behind children, Wu Zhonghua, who has a poor family and has been thin since childhood, is also frequently bullied. The snow season in the northeast is long, and Wu Zhonghua is often buried in the snow by other children. His grandmother sewed him heavy cotton pants, and others threw firecrackers into his pocket to bomb him. To this day, these are still lingering in his mind.

Wu Zhonghua originally thought that he would follow his parents' path and work hard early to earn money to support the family, but this was not in his father's plan. Eight years of three craniotomy life and death battles

In November 2014, sophomore Wu Zhonghua began to feel wrong.

He was very weak. In winter, he weighed only 126 pounds in clothing. He had a head CT in Beijing and found a head problem, but wasn't sure of the problem. He was dizzy all day, eating and spitting something, and he wondered at first if he was not satisfied? Coupled with homesickness, he eventually chose to go home for treatment. His father worked far away in Jiangxi, and his mother took care of him at home, but when he returned home, he still vomited every day and was even basically paralyzed, resulting in sores all over his body. Doctors in his hometown treated him with vertigo, but to no avail.

It was not until the MRI was diagnosed with a brain tumor that Wu Zhonghua and his family knew the seriousness of the matter. After his parents pooled money to scrape together 200,000 yuan, Wu Zhonghua had his first craniotomy on Christmas Day 2014. The operation was successful, and after the operation, Wu Zhonghua struggled to recover and returned to school after three months, but he clearly felt that his health was not as good as before. Before the operation, he dunked casually, but after the operation, he did not dare to dunk, although he still had 3 meters 20, 400 meters and could run for 50 seconds, because a small part of the right cerebellum was removed, and there was no bone in the back of the head.

Wu Zhonghua is still working hard, but the more difficult is just beginning.

In 2016, he was again detected for a brain tumor during a routine follow-up. After the relapse, he broke down, he used to stand by the river not far from home and wanted to kill himself, but thinking of his parents, he chose to be strong. During the second craniotomy, he had more serious sequelae, deafness in his left ear, blindness in his right eye, and weakness in his right arm, but looking at his parents who paid for themselves and borrowed 300,000 yuan for the second operation, from sending himself to the hospital, staying up late to queue up for registration, and donating blood during the operation, he decided to face it bravely.

From skinny after surgery to eight-pack abs despite pain, he became a senior fitness trainer, giving lessons to others in his spare time, and working part-time as a model, earning eight or nine thousand yuan a month while going to school. He paid most of his income to his parents to pay off debts, and kept a small amount for use. He also took the graduate exam at Tsinghua University, but a 5-point difference made him miss Tsinghua.

But in August 2019, the suffering came again, and he was diagnosed with a brain tumor again. The brain tumor was initially small, but then occupied the entire right cerebellum, and two tumors appeared, one on the brainstem. The family was destitute and heavily indebted, and her mother decided to let Wu Zhonghua undergo surgery in Shenyang instead of going to the most authoritative hospital in Beijing. Every time I think of this, my mother bursts into tears, but reality does make my mother have to bow her head.

In the Chinese New Year's Eve of 2022, Wu Zhonghua underwent the third craniotomy, after this operation, Wu Zhonghua appeared when the doctor told him about the possible hemiplegia and facial paralysis when he had the first operation, Wu Zhonghua, who had a delicate face, was "disfigured" after this operation, one side of his face and one eye were a little distorted, he would leak out of drinking water, had difficulty eating and swallowing, and walked from scratch. Fortunately, he survived, which is already a blessing in misfortune for parents who are told by doctors every time that their son may not be able to get off the operating table.

Nirvana rebirth after falling to the bottom

Three craniotomy surgeries in eight years are enough to break anyone, and the original Wu Zhonghua is no exception.

He used to feel that there was no one in this world that he cared about, and no one cared about him. In the past, he ran the 400 meters in the fastest 49 seconds, but now at a pace of 2.5 kilometers per hour, he can walk for 12 minutes, and even the simplest preparation activities in the past, he can barely complete. In the past, he participated in the recording of programs in the class of appearance, but now, he participates in the recording of more inspirational programs.

What made him even more sad was that once he went out to exercise, he fell to the ground, and the first reaction of the neighbors when they saw him was not to lift him up, but to go home and call his mother to help him, just because the neighbors did not dare. In his twenties, he should have helped the elderly, but now, the older people did not dare to help him. All kinds of physical and psychological sufferings made him let go of himself for a while.

The encouragement of netizens, the tears of his father, and his grandfather picked up waste products again to subsidize the family, pulling him back from the bottom. He regained the authenticity and courage in his heart, and his experience of studying at Beijing Sport University and engaging in sports for so many years made him choose to be reborn in nirvana and start from scratch. He became optimistic and grateful, he began to understand that being alive was a gift, so even though he knew that he would have a high "rate of return" when he was hideous, he still bravely went out into the street and sat in the crowd. He began to expose himself, but also refused the gift of well-wishers, he hoped to use his own hands, using short video self-media to make money, so as to reduce the debt pressure of his parents.

In 2022, he summed up his two things as "living" and "gratitude". In 2023, he is also two things, "alive" and "pay off debts".

But he always remembers his identity as a sports person, and he remembers his love for basketball. Therefore, he chose to contact CBA star Meng Duo, hoping that he could help him complete his life and see his idol Guo Allen on the spot.

On the evening of April 5, the finale of the 2022-23 CBA regular season, Liaoning team hosted Qingdao team, Wu Zhonghua finally fulfilled his wish with the help of Meng Duo and Liaoning team. The crowd applauded him, Allen Guo presented him with an autographed jersey and a big red envelope to express his heart, and Liaoning head coach Yang Ming and other players also stepped forward to high-five, shake hands and hug Wu Zhonghua.
