Night Reading | The Year of the Tiger: The Tiger is born for love

Read aloud: Jia Xin

Nabokov loved butterflies and spent his life collecting all kinds of butterfly specimens, one for research and the other for appreciation.

Although Calvino loved comics and movies since he was a child, and dreamed of becoming a dramatist, after graduating from high school, he mistakenly entered the department of agronomy, and since then, he has been particularly devoted to plants and loves him throughout his life.

Before his death, Goethe had been shouting: Light! light! This light is not only a symbol, because he has always been interested in optics during his long career in literary creation. His achievements in optics are no less than those of his contemporaries.

And the great writer who wrote the cetacean encyclopedia, Melville, did stay in three whaling ships for three years as a whaling sailor, and then he achieved the majestic and great "Moby Dick", and he was also known as the Shakespeare of the United States.

What a writer, or a person, likes, has both providence and sometimes his own choices. But whether it's a divine arrangement or a choice of your own, there must be a medium or inducement that triggers your love.

I am a tiger, and I was born on the tiger day, so naturally from an early age, I have been particularly kind to the tiger. At the same time, because the tiger is the king of the beasts, he is very powerful and majestic, and he feels inexplicably proud and proud. ——As if he belongs to the tiger, he has become a real tiger, with tiger guts, tiger qi and tiger might; or he is really the embodiment of a tiger, and his inner energy is full of tiger energy, such as tiger wings, Pengcheng Wanli, needless to say.

Psychologically speaking, this is actually a hint, and this hint can really be converted into energy. Therefore, although it seems to be very far-fetched and self-deceptive, if you have been actively blessed with the dark energy of the phase, you sometimes have an inexplicable power for yourself to overcome difficulties and challenge yourself.

The world is inherently a symbol, and human beings especially need allegories. Because we are born human, each individual is full of limitations, inferior roots and vulnerability. Human beings need to draw the nourishment of beauty, the energy of goodness, and the true enlightenment from animals, plants, and everything in nature, so we have chosen twelve animals as our genus. Just as Westerners take the zodiac signs to bless their energy. We draw from nature in order to make up for our deficiencies, to pity our smallness.

Although the tiger is the third oldest in the zodiac, as the king of the beasts, everyone understands that its majesty goes without saying. Aside from lions and elephants, who are the real animals on land? Therefore, among all ethnic groups, there is the worship of tigers. Chinese is no exception. Chinese praise people as heroes, and say that heroes are bold. This is not enough, but also to praise him for being bolder than the tiger, that is, the hero of the tiger, Wu Song and the like.

The day before yesterday, I read an article saying that if I wanted to choose a tiger speaker from the history of world literature, it must be Borges. The article said that this writer among writers, a poet among poets, has been associated with the tiger all his life. Moreover, his favorite is the tiger of the East. It is mentioned that Borges once said in his essay "The Tiger in the Dream": "When I was a child, I worshipped tigers fanatically: not the yellow tigers that haunted the waters of the Paraná River and the Amazon bushes, but the majestic tigers of Asia that only a warrior who stood on the back of an elephant in a cage could deal with. The article also said that as a child, Borges often watched tigers in front of the zoo, and also enthusiastically collected tiger illustrations in encyclopedias and various natural history texts. As he grew up, he began to read Tiger poems by Blake, Tigers from Kipling's Jungle Tales, and tigers from various literary masterpieces and cultural texts, including myths and legends. After becoming a poet, the tiger became one of the most famous images in his poetry, giving birth to countless famous passages, such as "The Golden Yellow of the Tiger" and so on.

At the age of 85 and blind for years, he also visited a friend's private estate with great interest and touched the last tiger of his life.

The experience was also written into his 1984 book of poems, Atlas, in which he said, "I approached the tiger with a frightening sense of well-being. ”

As for why Borges was so obsessed with tigers all his life? The article said that Borges also did not give a clear answer. However, we may find the answer in his collection of poems dedicated to his lover Maria Kodama, Tales of the Night, in which a poem called "The Tiger" reads:

"A girl named Nora said: Tigers exist for love." And Nora is Borges's sister.

Borges, who was unmarried until the age of seventy, fell in love with Maria Kodama in his later years, and he was 78 years old when he gave this collection of poems that "best show my inner world" to his sweetheart. Perhaps it is precisely because he is full of love that he has been a tiger and a tiger all his life, old and strong.

Although the contemptible people belong to the tiger, the love for the tiger is still far from enough compared to the master Borges. I think that's why I can't write a good article. Because only by understanding the tiger and loving the tiger can we understand what is love, what is beauty, what is strength, because the tiger is not only the embodiment of strength and beauty, but also a deep ocean of love, fervent love and broad love.
